Just saw this deal on bestbuy:

http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product/sony-sony-6-1-in-dash-double-din-car-video-deck-xav60-xav60/10140655.aspx?path=f681f1e0aa7635b3dc21e7449d0ba4f 3en02

Was wondering if anyone has this unit hooked up? Also I don't know to much about changing the deck but what else would be required to use this deck?

Thanks!

I own this deck got it a few weeks back. Good deck especially for the price. Clear sound, hooks up to my iPhone 4 which I haven't found one else that does. The interface is a little slow. Like a second but I do t car. Dont go into it thinking it will rival any 700 pioneer or jvc or clarion etc unit but I ur Ina bugger and that's ur price it's a fantastic unit for the better sound u get. I am very happy with the unit. Plus it has the easy DVD mod.... Just ground it out to a 12v source and ur golden.

I find it alot more clear then what I was running before... Especially at higher volumes.
I was running bassworx speakers, 10inch sub and amp off of my stock unit.

It's got some cool features also. Like the mysense thing which senses your mood and plays music to it

All in all for the price best thing out there for sure... No question great deck.

I got the kit and the wiring harness from curtchfield Canada and it was in total with shipping from missisaga 43.26 dOllors which was over 70 dollars less then the future shop I got it at. It is a double din kit. It fits perfect also and is oem black so it matches perfect. Really happy with it.

u can call them. its not online. they will do it rite on the phone with you and give you tracking number etc. and right away they email you your sales reciept. They are a fantastic company. It comes with a mazda specific wiring guide and install instructions. Its not something i have trouble with but it was nice to see they do those things to make it nice and possible for an easy DIY.

The number to Crutchfield Canada in Mississuaga on 88 Froster cresent is 18002979469. dont no if they have a sales office you can go to... im sure if you call they can tell you. If you do go this way the SKU# for the harness and dash kit are 120957504 and 120707904

photos i took quick with my iphone. took a couple to show you fitment and it on. it has multiple screen settings and colours. below is the red, which is great with out illumination lights ar night and a blue.

zakman
12-28-2010, 01:23 PM
well i can take some pictures of the manual that came with the crutchfield kit. it was perfect. ill do that after lunch.

but basiclly this is what happens. i grounded the 12v, green wire for the e brake to a constant ground that is on only when the key is turned. i tapped into the cigaret lighter negative wire. This worked perfect and ables you to play dvds anytime anywhere.

for the wiring harness here ya go......

A. what are the speaker wire colors.
TOP

White/Black – left front +
Gray/Black – left front –
White/Red – right front +
Gray/Red – right front –
White/Purple – left rear +
Gray/White – left rear –
White – rear right +
Gray – rear right –

BOTTOM

Orange/Black – 12v constant
Orange/Black with silver dots – 12v illumination
Yellow with silver dots – 12v ignition
Black/Green – Chassis ground

B. what is the wire color to tap into for the remote antenna to start and stop the amp when the car is on and off.

Yellow with silver dots. This will turn the amp on when the car turns on, not when the deck is turned on.

these are the wire colours and what they are for the car. the new harness will have a guide to its colours. should be fairly similar

Let me know if you have any other questions.

zakman
12-28-2010, 01:38 PM
i was looking at the manual it onlly has 1 rca for a sub how to you hook it up then lol

there are a couple of options here.

- first this deck allows you to run a sub without an amp... and quite good actual. it has the single port sub out connection and that is for the not using an amp to run the sub set up. this has a LFP and HFP setting adjustment in the deck and its actually pretty got for the deck. you can get this adaptor anywhere which is a single RCA to a red and white. NOW THIS IS ONLY FOR NOT USING AN AMP.

- second/third there are the front RCA and the rear RCA these are used if you have an amp. the only problem is if you use them, for youto get the sub to work if you want really big base and hard hitting you need to go into the setings and make the rear speakers the sub option. its turns the rear outs to become the sub in the decks eyes. IN YOUR SETTINGS ITS CALLED THE Rear base enhancer or the RDS. when you do this tho you will lose the speakers to work from the deck. soooo you have to run the speakers off of the amp. this is all in the wiring diagram in the box. Link ----->http://www.docs.sony.com/release/XAV60_install_EN_FR_ES.pdf (it is in the lower left corner of the big wiring diagram picture).

where are you located lol. im in barrie... you ur planning a trip up this way i will be more then happy to do it.

its really simple just small little steps. im starting to think i should of done a 'How to Install a Touch screen Deck'

1) do the wiring harness in the house that way you stay warm. its 16 wires of twisting lol
2) then the removal of the top strip above the stereo and glove box.
- open the glove box and remove the strip. pull it out with a little force from under the lip in the glove box. it will pop and then all you do is pop the rest of it and slide the clip out from the right side last.
3) REMOVING THE DECK AND SCREEN. FIRST put the screen on the setting you want to keep. once you remove the old deck you cant change it. i left mine on the clock.
- unscrew the deck on the top and remove it all. pull wiht a little force to get the clips off on the bottem of the deck. here is where you will unclip the lcd screen from the top of the deck and keep in install and not the deck. there will be a bracket clip in the top of the stock deck that holds the screen. its a little awkward but make sure you dont disconnect the cable going to the screen or you lose the power and the setting it was on.
4) the dash kit will have the brackets the are used to attach to the screen and then screw into the actually dash. they are simple little 2 inch brackets. they screw in with the screws that removed when you removed the deck. ill pull my dash piece of and get a picture of the screw position for you.
5) now plug the harness that you wired with the decks harness into the car. you can then move wires around and make room then put the deck in.

Do the steering wheel controls still function?

mine do because i bought the device that is needed to make it work. you will never find an aftermarket deck, besides the caska and such that are designed to work with factory plug-ins, that will retain steering controls. the harness that adapts to work with the steering wheel is like 70 bucks on line. its no big deal tho because the deck has the gesture control.

gesture control is when you put ur fingure on the screen in the middle and move it either to the right left or up. this will either change it forward backwards or to the next folders or fm tuners. so u dont even need to look to change the channel, song or fold. its really nice.

just keep the screen plugged into the power cable it has plugged into it already. all your doing is removing the screen from the top of the deck atachement its a clip. and then you attach the new screen brakets that then screw into the dash. i think i attached a sheet that helps with that below. let me no if this makes sense and if not ill try to go snap a picture of the clips.

well then looks like sony told me wrong lol. they told me to use one of those directly to the sub. but i didnt really pay attention to the set up because i am running mine to the rear out and then running my rear speakers off of my amp.i did that with my other deck so there was no need for me to change it. but ya thanks for the clearification. good thing we are all here to help each other out.

If i recal correctly manufacturers are now going over to a digital signal system rather thent he analog. I had to instal a deck similar to this not to long ago and was the same thing. threw me off at first. You can hook up a single rca without getting the splitter but then the bass will not be as high as if you do the dual hook up

you will have to read the owners mannual and see what it wants. Some times the decks need a sequence. For instance toggling the gorund on and off 3 or 4 times in order to make it work. For my alpine unit I had, I had to either get 2 toggle switches or geta pac unit. The difference was the pac unit disabled the security from when you turned on the key and the toggle switch trick had to be done every time you got in to the car. The pioneer units i have had their was several different ways for different units to disable the security. The N2 pioneer deck needed a drop of saughter to connect 2 electronic points. the D3 from pioneer needed a pin to be moved from top to bottom and connected to ground. The F series from pioneer needed a pin to be moved up and over. The Z series same as the F. I would suggest looking up on the internet to seeing how the bypass should be done. Theo wners mannual will explain to you how it needs to be hooked up.

You gotta start from the beginning every time you wanna listen to another song, you can't just go back and already be in the folder that its located.

Ok so for who ever has a sony dvd in dash player or this one for sure here is the way you need to make movie files to play them off of a USB. below is a hole write up. i foudn this on google. it gies you the file type and specs and a type of software that will do it. havent tryed it tho.

Turns out, that outside of a normal DVD, the headunit (same for the XAV-60 and the XAV-70BT) will play MP4 files, but as any tech-head should know, that could mean a lot of different things. Like many video formats (.avi, .mkv, etc.), MP4 is a container for certain audio and video “streams”. Since you can put different formats of video and audio into this wrapper, we need to know specifically what Sony supports. Luckily, the manual does state their support and it is as follows:

MPEG-4 files meeting the following
requirements can be played. Playback is not be
guaranteed for all MPEG-4 files meeting the
requirements.
•Profile: MPEG-4 Simple profile
•Bit rate: Max. 7 Mbps on USB FS, 10 Mbps on
DVD, 7 Mbps on CD
•Frame rate: Max. 30 fps
•Image size: Max. 720 × 480 pixels
•Audio: Max. 320 kbps (AAC-LC)
•File extension: .mp4

So after messing with different conversion tools out there on the Interwebs that sounded like that should do the job, I finally stumbled across XVID4PSP. I’m guessing it started as a PSP conversion tool (because of course, Sony requires a different restrictive video format on the PSP – can’t even stay the same w/in the company!!), but it does much more now.

It will convert practically anything to anything and has tons of presets for portable devices.

If you’ve got one of these Sony headunits and want to convert some videos for it, install XVID4PSP and make sure the following are set:

Format: MP4

Video Encoding: pick one, but I used xvid, 1P, 768k, turbo and it was decent on the screen

Audio encoding: AAC-LC VBR 1.00 worked for me – make sure to choose an AAC-LC format! There are some ABR AAC-LC formats as well, but this worked – I’ll test more later.

The rest is self-explanatory and I was ecstatic to FINALLY get videos playing (with audio! since most other conversion tools don’t specifically use AAC-LC for audio which was the key)!

Rite... I'm thinking the same thing. That's why I asked what year his car was. But if he means it's just not working then it might just be he wasn't informed about how you will lose the function or the screen except for the temp and one of the options on the left. Clock trip gauge etc. this cant be changed unless you change the old deck again for the button.
