If you have money to spend sure why not, but it is pretty expensive. Lots of people get really into it and have alot of fun, but at the end of the day what are you going to get out of it.
I was into it once upon a time, spent alot and now the RC is in the basement collecting dust. Just my 2cents, all up to you.

cool story, bro!
lol but in all seriousness. I witnesses this. lots of dust on it. LMAO
mmm.. I knew a few guys who modded the shit out of some of these RC cars and get them going pretty damn fast. End of the day your spending hundreds of dollars on a toy.. you really have to love it.. or you'll hate it when its collecting dust.

RC vehicles are a endless money pit. I'm not huge into RC drift cars, but both my roommate and I have had our share of off-road RC vehicles. We've had both nitro and electric trucks, buggies, and truggies, and have spent a LOT of money in them. IMO, I get more use out of a off-road vehicle vs a drift car, as it is hard to find a large open smooth surface to run drift cars yet I can run my trucks anywhere. Yes, you can drive to a empty parking lot, but I found that it just became too much of a hassle, especially if you are the only one. We usually run our trucks direction in our backyard/park beside our house.
Then comes to the 2nd point, in that how easily these things break. I ended up selling mine in non-working condition because I couldn't afford to keep fixing it, and my roommate currently has no running vehicles (he has a nitro truck and a electric buggy). We have spent a ton of money fixing these things, and it seems that we break something every time we run them. Although I'm sure drift cars are less prone to breaking (I have no personal experience with them), I know my friend currently has a electric drift car that does not work because he fubar'ed the gearbox.
My advice, figure out how much you will really enjoy it, and be prepared to spend a LOT more than just buying the car initially.

thanks guys im going to a local shop to check out what they got and for how much and will decide if its worth it or not!
the breaking thing seems to be a big down fall and i know i will probably end up hitting a bunch of stuff lol!
so it looks like its down to if i wanna spend the money on it or not.. seems like it would be more fun to put it into modding but we shall see! thanks!

Lol true Dave but I bet I would crash an RC car more than a real car lol or I hope! Its the steering that would mess me up because it's backwards when the car iscoming to you

don't really need to spend boat loads of money to drift a 10th scale.
i did this on a tamiya tl-01 many years back on a mechanical speed controller and a 19 turn motor.
it was all in the wheels. never thought pvc pipe can provide so much entertainment. heck, even electrical tape worked. :)

You can spend thousands on rc. To get you started without sinking thousands into it wrap the rear tires tightly with electrical tape. Go drift. If you like it buy tires for drifting or go pick up a dspec hpi (cheap) or something more expensive if you really like it. I say get nitro on road though. Nothing beats the speed!
*edit* I forgot to mention that if your car is awd you will need to do some work on the setup. For example if you have an adjustable center diff you should send all the power allowable to the rear. Crank down the adjustment on the rear diff so it is locked (i.e., solid rear axle). Shoot me a pm if you need some tips.
