I have a BIG problem and I hope somebody here can help me.

I lost all my files on my laptop, these are .CR2 (raw files) files for a recent wedding shoot that I covered. I thought I have moved them to the External HD prior to deleting them on my laptop.

I have tried retrieving them through the use of recovery software, however, they are all corrupted and are not usable.

Do I have any other option to reconstruct the files I recovered or am I SOL and just tell the couple, to shoot me, I'm an IDIOT and that the memory from their wedding is lost forever. :/

Spare me the "you should have made multiple back ups of the raw files", comments as I already know that by now from learning the hard way.

Paging silentjay, I know you're no mac person, but HELP!??!!!

Please don't post this on my wall on FB as I'm friends with the couple.

I discovered this last night after receiving a call from a photographer based in T.O asking me to collaborate with him for 2011. He already have 6 wedding bookings for 2011 and I'm not about to lose this contract due to my negligence.

Take it to a place to have it professionally recovered. It'll probably cost you a small fortune... but you sorta f#($*d up!

No chance you could recover them from the camera's CF/SD? I think you might have to consult a professional here considering the type of pictures you are dealing with here.

I'm going to try to recover them from the CF as well as I didn't format the cards yet, they were just deleted from the card. That might help.

Any place you guys recommend who do recovery?

Look for CF/SD/Memory card recovery software. As long as you didn't add any data to the cards after deleting the pics, you should be able to recover it right off the cards. I did this many years ago with windows software, so you might have better luck looking for non-Mac software to do it. Whatever you do, don't add any new data to the card or kiss your chances good bye...

oh damn.. good luck with this. as someone mentioned try bring your memory card to somebody with a PC (if you can't find any MAC software) and find some software to recovery the data from the memory card. The software should supposedly treat it as another harddrive.

I haven't done this before but I have recovered a few files that I accidentally deleted from my HD before.

Optik, I forgot to mention; don't delete the files that you did recover as they might not actually be corrupt (I know that makes no sense, but trust me on it).

I have some apps that i've collected over the years that will recover files, though i've never used them on something of this importance. The only problem with trying is that reading/recovering may disturb the files even further, decreasing your odds of a full recovery. As stated, your best bet is to pay out the arse for a recovery servce that will guarantee their work.

Do be careful though - some cheaper places will give loads of verbal assurances that your data is recoverable but end up botching the card even worse. If you have the card in a reader or camera, I strongly suggest that you take it out of them immediately, and store it in a protective container. You'll want to minimize the cards exposure to access of any kind or the elements.

If the CF card is formatted in FAT/FAT32 or NTFS, check out R-Studio (http://www.r-studio.com/). They even make a Mac version now. The demo should tell you what recoverable files are available and should give you an idea if you can just pay for the program and do it on your own.

I've been using this software for years and it's worked wonders in many cases. The results are usually better when working with external media like a CF or SD card rather than a drive on a computer. There are fewer writes to external media, so chances are good that the data is still intact if you haven't used the CF card much since the pictures were taken.

i used a product from these guys (http://www.diskdoctors.net/) when a hard drive "lost" the entire partition during a power failure. Windows would not read anything but the software recovered 95% of the files off the "lost" partition.

Aight so your semi in luck.
When you delete a file using the delete key, your not really deleting it, you are just marking that space as 'available' to be written on, so that means that recover is an option.
The bad part is that
1) if you saved anything, you may have already written over that space.
2) it's going to cost you around $300-700 depending on the size of the job to recover it.
3)I only know it's possible, I don't know where to actually recover (store wise). It's usually governments that are recovering that stuff.

I take it you dont use a time machine back up?
I only started using one because of the same situation. I can only say going to a professional to recover is probably the best option.

boot from a different drive, and set the crashed drive to secondary. You will likely be able to move the files.

It's an external hard drive though, so technically it is a secondary disk. Im actually transferring some files now but some of them are messed up! I'll just have to redownload a bunch of them. Fark

it could be the enclosure causing problems. I would try a different enclosure or if you have access to a desktop, attach it as secondary internally

It's a 2.5" hard drive so I don't think I can do it. But on a good note, I've recovered a majority of my songs and lost very minimal. Awesome. If I lost everything I was going to sell my turntables and just give up lol

Oh and thanks for letting me jack your thread ash. muahahahaha
