View Full Version : Should i sell my 2006 JETTA 130K KM'S?
My warranty finished about not too long ago and im worried im going to start running into costly repairs very soon.
Ive already had many repairs done under warranty and im confident that more will arise seeing as i already have an airbag light on the dash as well as a strong pumping noise coming from the rear of the car every morning indicating to me that something is up with the fuel pump.
Should i sell it ? Or keep and it and take my chances. The body is in amazing condition no scratches dents or rust and the inside is in mint condition.
Im just not sure whether or not these volkeswagans are good with high milage.

Your looking at nothing but a money pit. My previous car was made in Mexico and was a nightmare.

But were these issues major? If they were minor things I say keep unless you want something other than a Mazda 3 (read 'Problems with the 3')
3 of the repairs were major, one had to do with the suspension the other had something to do with blower fan dont recall exactly what it was off the top of my head and the last was the engine coils had t be replaced. I also had smaller things like the spring in the mirror needed replacing and the LED bulbs in the mirrors also to be replaced. Now ive got an airbag light to deal with which will probably be some sensor that needs replacing as well.

The gremlins have surfaced! At the very least though, your door handles and trim haven't fallen off. My buddy's Jetta (2007) was a garbage can :P The first week he had it, he tried to roll down his rear window and the entire pane of glass fell off it's tracks and shattered in the door.

Airbag light can be anything, but in most cases Ive read that if the airbag light is on your dash the whole system is shut off until it is fixed and the light is off for safety. If the system malfunctions in an accident or whatever, it can hurt someone. My airbag light was on the dash before too, turns out just the little light bulb for the passenger side airbag on/off indicator was burnt out. A member here switched it for my glove box bulb and all was fixed.

Not everyone has your type of experience with their 3 :P. I have a cousin with an 2004 and besides expected repairs/replacements, it has been more reliable his wifes Civic...just sayin.

Truer words have never been said. Spent over 10k on my Mexican VW Jetta...never again.

Since you mentioned the Civic I also have one (2000 civic ex) and to this day only major change was the timing belt. Now comparing my 2004 Mazda3 I've changed the thermostat, an engine mount, stabilizer links, some gas cover issue, oil shield replaced twice (under the car) and the rust "repaired" once by MoT and it's already back in less then a year. The paint flakes off on the body, and rims...It's a great looking car but don't be fooled by the shitty mileage and issues it comes with.

Again, as your experience vs. my cousins...not eveyone experiences the same problems. I'd take a Mazda 3 over a Jetta any day but totally understand your feelings toward the Mazda 3.

Depend's, if your not confident the jetta will make it than I would sell it and get a new car. Some people can afford to do that but most people can't, so they fix the problem's (within reason) and drive on. My 06 Jetta had 300 000km on it when I sold it, no major issue's, it drove great and looked great. Mazda3's are what they are, quality wise I'd say there below average overall, and dealer service is beyond shit. I do like my mazda3 it's a fun car to drive! but this is the last mazda!

I'm going to have to disagree with you once again. There are plenty of threads mentioning other members which have replaced the same parts as my 3. It's all in a matter of time before you realize it. If you need some type of reassurance speak to Jimmy next time your at SP.

Couldn't agree with you more :P
Ive decided to keep it.. The condition it's in is amazing for a car at 130 K . Not a spec of rust, no scratches or dents (******knock on wood******)...
Thanks guys for all the help!
