Hello,

Me: 2005 Mazda 3 GT, 114K under extended warranty to December 2011.

I see from this forum that there have been problems with 05 's "blowing rods" at around 100K. I am not a car savvy lady, but I get scheduled maintenance religiously. I am guilty of not checking oil between oil changes.
The other day, I am driving to work, the engine starts to rattle then stops. I get it towed to my local mazda dealership (I'm in BC) and find out that there is no oil in the engine and I 'blew a rod'.
At no time did the 'check oil' light go off, there are no puddles of oil where I park and never have I had smoke blowing out of my car. My last oil change was 3000K ago.
The dealership will replace the lower part of my engine, under warranty.
They even suggest I change the clutch (though it's not yet needed) just because 'they will have it open' and I can get it replaced for parts cost only (500.00).

Should I sell this car?! Some say,WHY? It's fixed and under warranty!!! Others say, forget fixing the clutch and sell it now.
I can't believe my 5 year old car has had this happen. Thank goodness for the extended warranty!!

What would you do?????

I would keep it. Had i not written off my 05 i would still have it. My 05 was absoloutely bulletproof. I ran it hard, day in day out, hot or cold did not matter did not give me an ounce of trouble with exception to the stuff i caused it to have with the intake on it.

Keep the car get the engine fixed under warranty. If the clutch is fine, don't bother changing it.

If the clutch is worn out or even half way worn out replace it otherwise a few months later your going to have to pay for labour plus parts later on down the road

Keep the car and fix the clutch now since it is apart. Avoid a further problem down the road.

If the car feels wonky after the replacement then consider selling.

Keep it and have the engine fixed. If the clutch has more than 50% wear, then have them replace it. Otherwise, I wouldn't bother as it should easily give you another 100K+ no problem if you drive it properly.

You can get an Exedy clutch kit off ebay for $200 US... it is a stock replacement and they are the makers of the original clutch
I wouldn't pay any more than that

i bought that kit for my 05 it came with pilot bearing, release bearing, clutch and pressure plate. Was totally worth the 200us.
