Alright folks heres the deal!!

Looking to buy new tires and rims in the spring.. I'd like to stay with 17" rims... but have decided to try and build the car for circuit purposes so everything is being redone.

I just want some input as to what size rims you are running.. i.e 17x8 etc and the size tires you are running??? Just wanna get a feel for what everyone has out there so I can try and figure it out....

Thanks
Will

For the track a lot of people like to run the Mazda FD rims, which are somewhere around the 13lb range, and are 16x8.

I think if you run 17 x 8 you most likely have to roll the rear fenders

Well here are some numbers for you:

STOCK:

17 x 6.5 offset 52.5mm

FEASABLE (if lowered):

17 x 7.5 offset 42 - 52mm

17 x 8 offset 45 - 50mm

18 x 7 offset 42 - 55mm

18 x 7.5 offset 42 (some rub) - 50mm

18 x 8 offset 48 - 50mm (very tight) look for some rub.

19 x 7.5 45 - 50mm

19 x 8 (probably won't fit if your lowered)

Rims fitting depend on if your lowered and by how much. Most rims 7.5" and wider will require you to roll the fender if you're lowered.

Its recommended not to go with a tire larger/wider than 225/40/18. The good thing is the rolling circumfrance of that size is pretty much the same as stock.

If a rim has a lower offset its possible to use a narrower tire for slightly more clearence.

Spring make the differance also, so be aware when you lower your car. The preferable offsets for us are between 52 and 45, with 42 possible. Be aware of the weight in your car and the roads around you in your decision.

Hope that helps.

Got this from the sticky, but I hope this helps your decision! :)

Thanks to all that have responded... as I mentioned I'm completely re-doing the car... meaning im changing my suspension set up as well.... I wanted to do a 17x9 but that seems as though it might be a little too large.. so I may have to settle for 17x8 or 17x7.5

Have you looked for 17x8.5 rims? You can fit 8.5 rims without too much drama with the right offset.

17x8 is what I'd use, or something in 16x8. 17x8 you'd use 225-45-17 and is one of the most common sizes of tire to find.

I want some light 17x8's as well!

Well I originally wanted to go for 17x9 but I guess its just not gonna happen.... might have to go 18x8 cuz the rims im looking at look weird in a 17..... paired with a nice set of dunlop direzza star specs... and all will be excellent!!!

If you're doing any track work you'd be nuts to get 18's. I'd suggest sticking with 17's but it's your car. 17's FTW!

well the goal is to get a nice set of rims for daily driving/track.... not really looking for full time track rims.... id like to stick to the 17"s but like I said the rims im lookin at ..... look funny on the car

I would stay with 17inch for the track especially road coarse, 1/4 mile doesnt matter too much, but 18 inch looks nicer on a daily drive. Selling my set of rims and tires for cheap if interested. It says 700$ but i could go 600$ for a fellow mazda3 owner.

Good luck with your track setup!!!

You're probably gonna get warned about spamming about your rims in every thread. I'd probably chill out a bit.

seeing your plan is to go ahead and build a circuit purpose car...

instead of focusing on wheels and tires

start with the basics....

Use the stock 17's w/ stickier compound rubber (215/45/17) Kumho XS or Hankook RS3

better brakes and fluid, suspension and most importantly a race oriented school...

what is the point of start with wider wheel and tire combo...

when you have no base to start...

start with the basics, see what needs to be improved and build from there.

Lol cuz the suspension has been upgraded, sway bar kits added upgraded the brakes and using better brake fluid..... hence why I'm looking for rims.... I used my stock rims with a stickier tire last year..... and finished my summer tires playing around with the suspension setup and tweaking it... and figured why run stock 17" rims when I can spend a little money and make the car look nice at the same time. But thanks for your input :D
