I know the roads were a lil icy today, but i kind of expected more from my michelin x ice 2 in 205 55 16. Today was probably one of my worst driving exprience ever. I just do not know if it was me or the tires. The car is a 10 gx sedan by the way. I seem to have had better control with my cheaper set of winters a long time ago as I remember. I had a set of Glacier Grips for $300 and they were great. Two years later after a spin out on black ice, i panicked and brought Toyo G-02's and they were worst. I had toyo G-02's prior to this time in a smaller size and they were great. I am not sure if the tire size played a role in that one or not. Any feedback is welcomed.

It was slow but I still got around fine and I decided to leave 20 min early. What more did you expect from your X Ice's? What weren't they doing good or whats your issue with them?
I had no problems... It was snowy as hell and all the roads I was on (including 401 EB in durham) snow covered. I have the hankook i-pikes. They suck on ice but I am pretty sure most tires too... snow tires are made for snowwwww woo hoo! lol

+100000 I never understood people who expect snow tires to grip on ice. Strap some spikes on your wheels. That'll get you some traction ;) lol

yeah i know snow tires are made for snow and i never go a season without them except last year when i still had my SUV which was normally stored for the winter, but even with the almost old bridgestone i had no problem going to Buffalo and back on visible icy road. Every where I looked they were saying good things about michelin and i am not the type of person to go out and buy something without research in which this is part of for my next set of tires.
main problem was starting off, the car felt loose. Its manual by the way, which makes it a lil more difficult than auto, but i have been driving manual cars for about 6 years now.

Didn't have any issue today...
I found it extremely slippery today and I have snow tires.

Maybe try starting in 2nd gear? I never had the X ice but I assume my winters are similar and it does take a bit to get going but way better then all seasons. I dunno what to say, if a SUV with all seasons is better then X ice 2 tires, there must be something wrong.

No issues here except for all of the idiot drivers. I love driving in this stuff. :)

My only problem were the idiots out there. If you have trouble launching start in 2 gear all the automatic 3's have the manual mode, and if u have been driving a stick for any time then it shouldn't be a problem.

No problems although my GF tells me she almost rear ended someone in her civic. She has better snow tires than me as well :P
I don't start in 2nd. If you just use the clutch you shouldn't need to start in 2nd. With today's slow crawl starting in 2nd would have been a bit pointless. Stuck on Leslie/Don mills for 30 minutes at 5kph. It was like get car going then just sit with my foot off the gas while it crawl. Fun :P
Still when I did get some open roads it was ok. I love driving on snow :)

i had a pretty rough drive this morning. mainly because of idiots that were either driving in between lanes and don't have common sense. traction control kicked in a lot too. way more than i expected. i-pikes seem to handle fairly well though.

No issues, beside scrapping the snow left in the middle of the lane between the tire marks on some roads. No TCS kicked in becuz my car don't have TCS lol

man - I barely even got out of first gear.
Literally rolling down Sheppard for 3 blocks took me an hour

Are Michelin X-Ice Xi2's really that bad? I'm thinking of getting these but may get the Hankook w409 iPikes instead.
My drive this morning wasn't actually too bad. The 401 westbound was almost moving like a regular non-snow day.

No problem with my altimax artics but I was driving really slow. It's not the snow it's the ice and of course the idiot drivers
Racing down the road with their all seasons.

You and me both my friend! My friends and family think I'm crazy for loving it. Take it easy, leave a huge gap ahead of you and leave earlier, you'll be fine.
I left for work at 4:30 this morning to avoid the havoc...it worked! Leaving at 2:00, I can't wait...

I normally do either one, 2nd or first. I really hadn't had a chance to go out and play with the car yet, I normally like driving in the snow when no one else is on the road. Its just that on ice, you can't really make any sudden moves and alot of people don't understand that. First winter with the car and first time with this brand winters, so we will see how it goes. I was going to get the artic claw and or nordic, but i lucked out with these.

I admit, I had a lot of fun last night around 12 before it got too thick. I'm still getting used to the FWD thing so my skills suck, but I did learn about lift-off oversteer nicely, and that I really need to overcome my RWD instincts. I love having a full-off DSC button.
(My lift-off oversteer is particularly bad because I have OEM tires in the back but Michelin Pilots up front.)

An SUV is significantly heavier than a 3, thus it will naturally handle better in the snow.
I drive with 16" Gislaved Nordfrost 5's inflated around 32PSI, and I still was slipping around during the storm as I went across Eglinton Ave from North York to Mississauga. Mind you, I was able to drive faster and had no issues going up and down the 5 major hills along the way. Drove in 2nd pretty much the entire way, but was able to get into 3rd a few times in some of the long straight and flat stretches. Winter tires are not perfect.
Maybe try starting in 2nd gear? I never had the X ice but I assume my winters are similar and it does take a bit to get going but way better then all seasons. I dunno what to say, if a SUV with all seasons is better then X ice 2 tires, there must be something wrong.

Had SO much fun!!!
Rented a 2011 GMC Sierra SLE. Drove from Kingston to Toronto... took 5.5 hours... and had a LOT of fun playing around parking lots in RWD mode with the Traction Control off.
that's why they have studded winter tires, but unfortuntely they don't let us use it in Ontario.

I'm still on my all-seasons and didn't bother to change them because firstly their only about 3000kms old and secondly I'm thinking about buying new rims/tires and keeping my stock 16" rims for winter... but getting to the point, I haven't had a single problem so far while driving in the snow/ice/storm thankfully, other than me playing around and intentionally making it slide (just a bit, I'm no drift god) when no one else is around near my house! :P
