i bought a salvage 2008 mazda 3. i notice everytime i step on the brake at low speed it makes a noise around the dash and the gear shift console. onky happens when my car is stopped or moving at very low speed. it does happen at times when on parked but very rare. im sure its not my brake pads. it sounds like something is loose or the engine is vibrating or trans. bouncing.

does it sound like a clunk or clicking noise? have someone put their ear up close to the shifter to check if it's coming from there... if it is, then it is the shifter's safety interlock mechanism that's making the noise
of course you shouldn't be surprised of any problems with a salvaged car :)

if its a low sort of a tapping noise, it might be your windshield cowl. Mine makes a noise in exactly the same situation you described. Not sure if there is a DIY solution for it though. This sound *might* sound like its coming from the shifter console.

not hard to DIY the cowl panel fix... but will take at least an hour working slowly
