Well I just got the Hypertech in the mail today and took the car for it's inaugural run. I got it from another member off Mazdas24/7 for a good price. I figure it would be a good choice for me considering my mods and plans.

I was only out for about 40 minutes.

Here's what I have so far: Running with Cobb SRI intake selected.

1) First & second gears (even third) feel much more responsive.

2) The car runs and accelerates more smoothly.

3) The car now pulls hard to red line. Where it used to fall flat at ~5500 it now zips straight through.

That's about it for now. It does feel faster, but by how much I'm not sure. Seat of the pants feel can be pretty subjective. The gears are zinging by quicker for sure. There was really never much in the form of turbo lag as long as you're above 3000, but now acceleration is instantaneous.

Bottom line:

Mazdaspeed 3 + Hypertech = The way the car should have been from the factory.

More to follow when I have time to log some pulls and get more drive time.

The improvements on the N/A 2.3 are really good as well. Once you press the accelerator the car responds right away. Always look forward to taking highway on-ramps:)

Awesome man...glad its working out for you...now if only Winnipeg would warm up and the snow would melt I could take more advantage of my HT. I was lucky enough to get mine prior to snow fall and really enjoyed the new feel to the car. As you mention its the way the car should be from the factory, 1st 3 gears are so much more rewarding and the top end power right to redline is fantastic. Cant wait for spring to give it more testing and a dyno.
BTW, have you noticed any bump in boost. I monitor my boost gauge to see if the HT is increasing pressure past factory but I think its too damn cold here and so I am still maxing out at 15-16psi. Read on other forums 18-19psi is common.

Enjoy!!

Here are a couple logs from after the tune. Let me know your thoughts please, I am not an expert on this stuff by any means and would appreciate any insight.

I thought I would see more boost in 3rd and 4th but the car feels stronger than before the tune and pulls hard above the old flat spot (5600?)

2nd & part of 3rd gear (had to slow up)

The logs seemed to have shrunken for some reason and are hard to read, sorry. I'll look into fixing it. I added links to the pages above the pics for now.

On the hypertech max energy sport power programmer where should i have the RPM rev limiter at?

I left it stock which I think is 7000. I guess you could lower it a little but I left it alone. Definitely don't need to go higher.

A fifth gear pull log if anyone's interested. Probably not by the look of this thread. :chuckle

I got your Pm butsome pics don't show when I'm at work.

Your latest log...boost looks good...and that's about it.

You should apply RPM as the X-axis, so we can better tell you what's happening where.

For example, around the 5 sec mark, you got WOT knock...and you can see your AFR's went rich to compensate. This could be due to a number of things and we need more variables to tell...like whether it's heat soak or otherwise.

If I am to take a stab at it, I'd guess that it happened around 3500 - 4000 rpm...could be timing as well or transition from closed to open loop.

Thanks for taking a look.

The KR thing I've had issues with since I moved out here to NS. Sometimes it's bad, then it goes away for a while. Might be fuel? Right now I'm running stock tune and still getting KR above 2 WOT. I have an appointment at Mazda to check things out. I've checked every bit of intake plumbing and lines I can see, the BOV and changed my plugs from the 1 step colder back to stock all to try to trouble shoot things. No luck. :complain

Might be bad gas...having said that, your timing is nowhere near aggressive...it might be heat, might also be moisture...these cars don't run well in moist weather for me in TO.

Your AFR's are OK...but it oscillates too much for my liking. How's your fuel pump? You are running a 20psi tune...meth will help.

I don't think heat would be the issue as it happens when it's pretty cool outside and running on the highway. Fuel pressure never dips below 1600 under acceleration from what I have seen. I hope to have this sorted out soon anyhow. I've exhausted everything I can do myself for now and it happens with or without the HT flash in place. Frustrating.

Thanks again for your insight.

No problem man...too bad you can't make it out to our get togethers in TO.

With regards to your PM, I think you already know what I think...lol...self-tuning with the AP and ATR is accessible and lotsa user experience to draw from. Furthermore, I'm looking to offer remote tuning and there are also other tuners to choose from that'd offer e-tuning service over email as well.

Yeah, TO is about an 18 hour drive. I wish I still lived close enough to swing that way. I'll get this issue sorted out and then figure which direction to take things. I had no idea about the remote or e-tuning options. Pretty cool stuff.
