View Full Version : HELP fix my rim

So long story short, steel pipe (thichness of ones fist) fell out the back of a pick-up truck yesterday morning and as it was sliding and bouncing towards my car I was just unable to get out of the way. Ran over it with the passenger sire front tire. Nothing but wobbling after that no matter what speed I go.
Checked with my mechanic after work and it turn out rim is bent!!!!!!!!!!!
Anybody know where I can go to get the rim fixed.
Set of 4 mazda OEM rim powder coated black. I like this set up for winter so would rather fix the rim than ditch the set.
Thanks

Maybe check ebay/kijiji/etc see if anyone is selling one rim, might end up being cheaper than trying to fix it. Or check a junk yard

Carcone's will not repair. They say they do that but they will want to try and sell you another rim with refinishing costs.
Do a search in here as I remember coming across several threads about rim repair by a shop down in Hamilton. Check out Phillie86's post. Clicky (http://www.torontomazda3.ca/forum/showthread.php?39006-My-MS6-Rims-(Review-Tons-of-Photos)&highlight=)

Bummer dude! I'd suggest in the mean time, swap that wheel with one of them on the rear until you can find a shop. It'll still vibrate but shouldn't feel as bad since it would only be in the back.

Thanks man, I tried that but like you said it still vibrates. I'll just have to put on the spare or one of the oem 17's until I get it repaired. 17's were just cleaned mint though so I'll rock the spare.

Will do.
Just a heads up bman13, Spoke with Carcone's and they said they would take a look at the rim but it is not something they really want to weld as they don't really practice or endorse welding. (liability issues) They are most likely going to try and sell me a new rime which they will powder coat but they can't give me a price as yet until I tell them what rim it is.
union Rim repair said if the bent is minor it starts at $80 but of course they need to see it as well. All in all, I think need to find out what model rim I have and then I can get down to business.
Will keep you updated.
cheers

So it turns out I'll need two rims. Came out of work on lunch today and noticed my other tire on the passenger side was flat. Went to my mech after work and that rim is bent as well which is why tire deflated since it's not sealing against rim. This rim had weld marks on it as well right where the bend is. Just bought this rims and two of them had previous welds on them which made them so weak...just my luck! Did you find anything out bman13?

Should probably just go with a set of steelies even though looks may not be the best.

I had 1 bent rim repaired...the guy is really skilled, and wil tell you whether the rim can be reapired or not. He doesn't like repairing a rim to say 60% round...lol...if he doesn't feel he can fix it appropriately, he'll tell you not to waste time and $.
I forgot the guy's name...but he was recommended to me by several TM3 members, and Allen@Simply:

It's cool, I took the 2 rims to Union and worked out a deal earlier today. They are going to straighten out the bends and the rims will be like brand new in a day or two. I put 2 of my oem 17's on the back for now so at least i'm not driving on spares. lol
Got him down to $80 a rim so i'm ok with that.
Let you know how they turn out on Sat when I pick em back up.

Yup. The place is called Precision Rim Repair. From his feedback, I had my rx-8's refinished by them and they did an amazing job. $125 per rim.

Thanks hit26k for giving him the address, if they do a great job on these, I might just get them to powder my 17's.

No problem. They don't powder coat rims from what I was told. They fix bent rims and restore rims to the factory finish. Wouldn't hurt to call and ask though. It was a 3 day turnaround and the rims looked AMAZING! It was as if I had ordered a new set straight from the dealer. The website does make them look shady but they are good guys.

Yeah, they had some painted rims hanging outside the biulding so that's why I assumed. I'll check with them when I pick mine up.

I am curious as well. Also, you folks mentioned Union Rim Repair and Precision Rim Repair. They are not the same are they ? Union is on Caledonia Road and Precision is on Rivalda Road. Which one did you end up going with J-ski and bman?

Union Rim Repair quoted me $80 to fix a bent lip.
80 is also the minimum price per rim. So if you are gonna repair slight curb rash - it'll be 80.
To completely refinish a set of 18's was minimum 300 depending on amount of damage and finishing colour of choice.

I assume the $300 for the set of 18's were painted and not powdercoat?

yes because of the chrome lip, PC was not an option
But it did cover the cost to refinish the chrome on the lip and the clearcoat
