I watched it last night, what did you think of that wide body Vette loosely based on a sting ray?

My AV tuner pooched out today just before B-J came on!

:bang

... so I went out to plow and my ATV battery was frozen. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...............

... so I messed with the tuner late afternoon. I finally found the factory reset procedure and got it back up and running with a half hour left in the telecast.

:flaming

AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(I think the tuner needs a good cleaning, as the HDMI output cuts in and out. I've checked everything, cables, etc.)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Other than that, what I did catch of the show the past four days was pretty good. One thing though, three years ago they sold for a total of $80 million in cars. This year was $32 million, and they (Steve & Greg) were chatting up a rosy picture in the wrap-up.

Sounds pretty grim to me.

One thing I do like is that Mopars have finally come back down to Earth in prices. Fords are up in price, and the once over-priced generic Camaro's, are now simply that, but back to pre-retard prices.

Did anyone notice how Rick Hendrick and Ron Pratt were co-buying cars? What's up with that?

Pretty sure most of the vehicles they bought are going into the new racing/automotive museum at Hendrick Motorsports in NC

Have to agree with the prices this year are no where close to previous years. Its all about marketing yourself, more they sell the more is in their pockets, 10% buyers fee and other fees pad their pockets. So lets paint a rosy picture so they can get those on the sidelines into the hobby. They forget that viewers-buyers-sellers don't forget and have access to previous years sale numbers. So we see the BS...I think they think sales over $1 is a plus and not a negative. Car hobbyist hate B.J. as the prices are inflated and have a negative impact for those who are hobbyists and just can't afford those outrageous prices as the prices are carried over and becomes unaffordable to the average participants in the hobby. Notice no Asian cars but didn't see all of the auction. I don't think B.J. would allow it for a while. Its all about muscle cars and classics and the unusual.

2006 $100,000,000
2007 $108,000,000
2008 $88,000,000
2009 $63,000,000
2010 $67,000,000

2006 $100,000,000
(+ = Let's borrow!)
2007 $108,000,000
( - = Let's borrow a little less, but I don't see this happening.)
2008 $88,000,000
(- ~ Maybe I should pay attention, but I need to pay back all of the money that I borrowed to buy these big fackin' tents!)
2009 $63,000,000
(- = Oops! - I think I facked up!)
2010 $67,000,000
(+ = Oh! Phew.... it's all good. I'll fool myself and I'l believe that the US economy is coming back.)

.. and 2011 at $32 million; Oh! Shit! I'm facked!

The man is still financially OK though, since he's worth millions. If you noticed, B-J increased their auctions from one per annum to four per annum in the last four years. The silver-spooned b-----d has to work for his money now. He has also sold a pile of his personnal cars as well over the past two years. Why?

I think they are losing their shirts. Time to bail.

No, three more events.

- Palm Beach
- Las Vegas
- & one in California somewhere (that they started last year)

He's spreading himself very thin. He needs to regain market share or change his business strategy. The 10% buyer's fee and 10% sellers fee is quite ludicrous. That's 20% collected on every car, and the 'No-Reserve' clause is scaring some sellers of the 'real' collector cars away.

... and don't forget that there were two other auctions going on at the same time in Scottsdale (RM Auctions and the upstart Silver Auctions). RM seems to be attracting some of the more high end cars, with Silver's more at the driver quality. Both these auctions allow a 'reserve' policy, which removes the 'What if?' factor. There are just so many cars to go around.

Wow didnt know there were 3 more always thought of the 2 usual.
Agreed the buyers and sellers fee are crazy.
Me and my dad go to the RM action when it at the international center. 90% of cars dont sell there because of the reserve and they make all there money based of entering the car and entrance fee.
I like the no reserve thing. amazing how some companies put 100,000+ in restoring or cusimizing cars and get like half of it back.

1) An acquantance of mine brought three cars to RM in Toronto a couple of years back. It was $300 per car to put them through. He has a two car trailer, so it took him two trips from Prince Edward County. When he registered beforehand, he was informed that there was secure storage. When he arrived with his first load on Thursday, he was told here was minimal security on the cars left outdoors. There was no indoor storage available and no night watch! ('Not responsible' they told him). They also promised him a scattered presence throughout the auction. He paid three nights for a hotel. They finally put his cars through at the end of the auction (8:30 pm and later on Saturday) when all the big spenders had already spent. The hall was nearly empty, and only lowballers were left. Then he was told he had to get the cars outta there before noon on Sunday or he would have to pay for towing and storage fees to a local inpound.

He got screwed outta $900 plus hotels/gas/etc... and hardly slept for three days.

Not a happy man.

2) ... and if you are the seller? How would you like to lose $30 to $50k?

Not critisizing, just sayin'.
