Unable to shift past 2nd gear problem

Hi everyone,
This is my first post, unfortunately it has to be a negative one. Hope everyone is well.
I drive a 2010 Mazda 3 GS hatch with 6spd manual.

I had a very unexpected problem today. While driving I was suddenly unable shift from 2nd gear to 3rd gear, and beyond. I am currently only able to shift from 1st to 2nd and Reverse (with shifter depressed on the left side), but nothing higher. It feels like something is blocking my shifter from going past 1st and 2nd.

Has anyone encountered a similar problem or would have any idea what the problem might be? I have babied my thus far and have not felt any grinding of the gears or slipping of the clutch.

hmm, not too sure but it sounds like all those synchros are messed up or more likely the shift linkages. warranty my friend, i had my 3rd gear synchro replaced under it.

Just left dealership now. Apparently one of the shifter cables were twisted and binding, preventing the gear shifter from moving. Thanks!

You can probably do 80 in second, but your fuel economy will suffer :)

This just happened to me last night and I'm now grounded because I'm stuck in 2nd and can't shift out of 2nd or into any other gear.

I think my warranty is past the 3 year mark as well... so now to spin this thread a bit... is it worth repairing with OEM parts, or now that it's broken, worth to upgrade anything? (Short shifter?) since there has to be some repair work going into this to fix it...

It's at Jim's (StreetPerformance) garage now... and he's going to give me an eval., just wondering what anyone else would do in a similar situation.
