A while back I posted an issue with an annoying ticking noise from the back hatch of my 2010 Mazda 3 GTE.

The noise is a ticking, crackling noise that at first seemed to happen over bumps & curbs, especially when it's very cold outside.
I've been dealing with Erin Mills Mazda & they've been very good. The first mechanic thought it was the headrests so they replaced one.
Noise was still there.
The next mechanic thought it was one of the plastic trims on the hatch. They replaced it.
Noise was still there.
Next the same mechanic taped & insulated the back panels & all the cables & ties.
Noise was still there.
Next I drove around with the mechanic while he lied in the back trying to find the noise.
Finally, he identified it as the latch. He was also able to replicate it on many of the other 2010 Mazda 3s in stock.
Unfortunately they say that they can't fix it as it's because of the design of the latch. They must have changed something with the latch design on a production run. (I don't know which mine is).
So now they have to submit a tech request to Mazda & see what solution, if any that they have.
With the cold weather we've had lately the noise constant, loud & very annoying. As the car warms up the noise does seem to go away a bit.
Anyone else have any experience with this? I've seen a posting on another forum where older M3s had a latch noise but the design allowed for some movement in the latch to adjust.
