View Full Version : long time to crank via remote start
Hello everyone,
I recently had my Throttle Body clean done, and now I realize that once I start via remote start, it takes longer 2-3 seconds for the car to complete the 'crank' sound.
It never used to do this at all.
I am worried that the TB clean up re-started some of the electronics... I did notice that my trip meter was 0.0 when I got the car back from service.
Could something electrical have been reset?
I tried looking on this forum, but found nothing similar.
Thank you for your input!

ECU was most likely reset. happens when the negative terminal is taken off the battery

I assume that it will resume back to normal operation? as I put mileage on it? or as it re-learns the staring/cranking timing?
Not really sure how to word it...

Yes it will return to normal within 50kms of driving or less

Alright. So I have already put about 100km's already. and it's still there, so I decided to upload a 9 second audio file describing the issue.

Notice that the crank lasts until the second beep! at about 7 seconds. It never used to crank for this long.
Thank you Phil for your input :)

thats sounds like mine. remember its being remote started so which ever system you have has go to through a process for the start sequence. My compustar system takes about 8 secs to start my car but if i start it with the key its only 3 secs lol. were you using the key before or were you always remote starting it?

Hmmm, I actually do understand what you mean about the start sequence. The remote is also a Mazda genuine one. Prior to the throttle body cleaning, the car used to take tops 5 seconds to [fully] start. Now it takes about the same time to start, but it cranks for longer... Feels like i'll need a new starter soon if it keeps cranking excessively...The key works fine and I use both remote and key, I would say 60% of time, I use key.
Something must have been reset, but I am afraid that it is more than just that :(...

Your car will be fine. Some remote start systems have to learn on their own and some have a tach learn wire. This means when you start the car and have it running hit the tach wire. The system will respond in some way by either a chirp the horn or lights flashing whatever. Some have to learn on their own. I installed a starter on my buddies gf's Subaru, when started it used to overrun but the more she used it, it stopped doing it. Now it no longer does it. Took about 2 weeks.
