Hello. Long story short, there is $750ish to my front end and $2600-4400 (depending on which estimate you go by) to his back end. My car is a 2010 Mazda 3, his is a 2004 Mazda 6.

Does this seem fishy?

Anyone know how much a rear bumper on a Mazda 6 actually is?

A little more detail..... My car only needs a license plate mount, plastic grill, some foam, and then the rest of the cost is labour. It includes a paint/clearcoat on the bumper (which is still in one piece, no damage but the scuff/scratch). His bumper had a dent the side of a license plate right in the center about an inch deep, plus paint damage.

Throw Joe (FLIPDADY) a message. He'll be able to tell you the actual cost of one.

did you only damage his rear bumper?

I thought bumpers are only a couple hundred dollars.

I had to get my whole door repainted plus a few panels and that was only $800. Maybe your guy went to the body shop and told them it was an accident and he wasn't going to pay for it, so the body shop took advantage.

List all the things that needs to be done then people will have a better idea if it is fishy or not.

Yeah... I think I'll ask if we can go to one of the places I got an estimate at and have one more estimate done for his car.... I honestly don't think I caused that much damage to it.

If it helps, I know a guy who had his civic rear ended and a replacement bumper painted was about $1000, I really can't see a mazda 6 one cost twice to 4 times as much.

Yeah.... Also, I don't see how my car could only sustain <$1000 and his sustain that much more damage. You'd think they'd be closer in price.

I agree, but you never know... frame damage maybe? lol... can you ask them for a breakdown of the estimate?

I'm not sure about Mazda 6 but on Mazda 3 if it was ONLY the bumper damaged then it should be under $1,000.

I backed into a pole and priced out a brand new bumper and the price without TM3 discount was $318 plus paint.

To paint the rear bumper it should be under $300

he's taking you for a ride because he can.

he's "doing you a favour" by "saving" you from your insurance going up...and he doesn't have to take his car to a place of your choice.

Wow that guy is trying to gouge you. Sounds like the estimate they got includes all the parts in the rear end. Example...Mazda 6 bumper (about $350-$400), paint (about $250-$350), and labor tops should be around $250-$350. I would go get another estimate.

keep in mind that you have the crash bar in the front with foam padding, in the rear end i dont think there is much protection. he might be getting a free paint job, but who knows, go to the body shop in person with him and see what is being said.

WRITE DOWN WHATEVER EVER AGREEMENT YOU COME UP WITH ON PAPER AND BOTH SIGN.

P.s. not yelling, just stressing the importance of it. it should be in some 100 font rite now

I don't pay my deductable to fix HIS car though. And since my deductable is $500 and the repair is only 750 I'm probably just going to pay cash and get one of those under-the-table discounts.

Does anyone have advice on what to do next? :bang

I got a quote from Kieswetter mazda for a 2004 Mazda 6 GT bummper. $694 after taxes, including paint and installation. So, it seems like this guy is definitely trying to rip me off. Thanks for the help guys. I'll update once the dust settles lol.

When our Mazda3 was rear-ended last year in March, the bumper fell off and the trunk floor got raised. The total repair cost was $5000 in the end.

Depending on what parts are involved, it may actually cost that much.
