View Full Version : Interior Compartment Light/Ash Tray Lighting does not work
Hello everyone,
I looked around and could not find a relevant thread to the issue I am having currently.
Today, I realized that the light bulb for the 'Ash Tray' pull-up compartment is not working, however, I moved the door up and down few times, it worked once, and then after it never worked again. I am not sure if it is the wiring or connections, but the bulb still works. I am really not sure what the issue here is, and hope it does not require pulling out some of the dash area to fix it.
Hopefully some members can shed some light on this.
Thank you in advance.
PS: Here's a picture of the compartment I am talking about.

Check the fuse? To get to the bulb, you'd have to pull up the cupholders and plastic around the shifter before you can pull out the ashtray/cig lighter panel. The bulb sits on the back of that panel. Kinda sounds to me like it's just loose in the socket.

either the bulb is burnt out or on the way out. not hard to replace and no their will not be a fuse for it. the reason why it came on after opening and closing the cover is because the filament came in contact with another part to complete the circuit which made the light come on. Nothing out of the ordinary. To remove and replace the bulb simply pull out the cup holder, pull straight up . Then remove the trim around the shifter also just pull straight up.
For standards To remove the shift knob just unscrew counterclockwise and you will be able to remove the trim around the shifter with the boot in one shot
for auto make sure you put the car in d with the handbrake pulled.
unscre the 2 8mm screws holding in the cig lighter unit and pull towards rear of car. On autos be careful as the lower part of the shifter assembly will be a little tricky to work around
behind their you will see the connectors. get a flat head screw driver (small one) or a pick or even a toothpick will work, and push in the tabs on the ash tray light socket. replace bulb and reverse procedures.

As mentioned before some of the dash would have to be removed to replace the bulb.
i would suspect it can take about an hour or so. we have not replaced too man ash tray bulbs.
if you remove any of the dash make sure you let the vehicle sit in a warm area so there is no damage to your dash or any other areas.

tops 20 minutes to do. The dash comes apart easily warm or cold. those clips are relatively forgiving
