View Full Version : Why say "inspection" when nothing is done?

Do any service employees actually do the inspection?

Why bother paying 39.99 for an oil change and inspection when it's not inspected???

Direct Mazda doesn't even do them. I asked where it was the first time I went for service, and the employee and myself went into the garage beside my car as he checked everything off from memory. If I recall, he said something like... "These cars don't wear out, they're good when they're new". Check check check number number check check number number "Here you go, have a good one"

The second time @ Direct, I didn't say anything in regards to the inspection report. In all honesty I forgot to. I didn't get one. I didn't even notice until I was about 30mins away. I drove back and asked where it was, perhaps it was misplaced I thought. Nope, "Oh, looks like we didn't do one. It's really only for the 24,000km services" was what I was told and a form was given to an employee in the back, and from MEMORY he knew my brake wear and tire wear. Everything else of course was given the green light.

Third time @ Direct. Didn't bother reminding them. Didn't get one. Didn't care. Wasn't coming back.

Went to QEW Mazda.
Was assured that I would get it because the manager there apparently demands it from the employees. Figured I scored...don't have to drive too far...will know what is ACTUALLY going on with my car before it's too late and my tires and brakes are too far gone to plan time for replacement and my tires pressure will be properly monitored in our every changing climate. After all, I do my job properly for people, so I trust others will do the same.

I did get an inspection report. Except it was the pink copy. The one that they're supposed to keep.
My brake pads haven't moved past what they were at 20,000 km ago.
Even though I've rotated my tires EVERY single time I had a service, somehow magically the rear tires have worn more than the front. I swear I bought a FWD vehicle.
Everything else is a green light...as usual.
To this day (although I know I should check it myself) I still do not know what psi any of my tires are at. Could it possibly take more than 2 minutes while it's up on the hoist? Maybe 2min30s so the tech can write it down?

I don't blame the techs, they go to work like everyone else...if my boss doesn't ride me for something, why would I go out of my way to work harder than everyone else does for the same pay? So where is the accountability? Who can I ask to actually look at the vehicle I bought? I thought I could go to the place that has the same logo that's stamped all over my car.

I realize this isn't a big deal, but if a restaurant serves their meals with dirty silverware... it makes you wonder. Better yet tells you IN PRINT that you get cutlery with your meal but when you get it they look at you like you're silly and why would you have expected to get it.

So ... is there a glowing Mazda service department in all of CANADA? Anyone ever get their car's actual information in a report and not a general average based on mileage? For 39.99 I can get an oil change somewhere else for 2/3's of that price and pretend to do my own inspection.

Sorry if this is posted somewhere else. Or if I posted this in the wrong area.
Peace!

You're right. We complete the inspection everytime we service a vehicle, whether it's for an 8,000km service, or a major service. If you would like to watch our technicians conduct the inspection on your vehicle, you can watch them from the big window into the service area. You will see the techs inspect the lights, horn, measure the tires, and if you are having a tire rotation, we will do a free brake inspection. Our technicians don't guess at the wear, they actually measure. Every tech in our shop needs to have the tools to measure tread depth, and brake wear.

As far as your "rear" tires wearing out more than your front tires, as you are aware, in a tire rotation, your tires are moved from front to rear, so there are no permanent "front" and "rear" tires. There are several reasons why the tires that were on the rear (that were in the front on the previous tire rotation) may be worn more than the tires that are currently on the front.

As far as the colours of the copies are concerned, Mazda Canada provides us with 3 copies. We keep the original and 1 copy. If you would like the canary copy instead of the pink copy, please let me know and I'd be pleased to mail it to you. (We have no use of the extra copy).

If you would like to bring your car back, and we can measure your brakes and tires while you watch, we would be pleased to do so. Or, if you want us to repeat the entire inspection while you verify all of the readings against the Report we provided, I would be pleased to arrange that for you.

Our clients like our process and receiving this information after every visit. They receive updates every 3 or 4 months about their tire and brake wear, and being notified if they have lights out or other maintenance issues. When you get a report on a regular basis, there is no "surprise" brake replacement or "surprise" tires need to go, and you aren't driving around with a headlight or brake light out. You can budget and operate your vehicle with that knowledge.

I can't answer for other dealerships or service centers and what they do and don't do. At QEW Mazda, we are here to service you and your car. If you have a question about what your Visual Inspection Report says (either from us or someone else), please don't hesitate to contact one of our service staff or myself.

I hope that helps answer your question.
