View Full Version : Wipers getting stuck in the up position or other odd spots

So a few weeks ago when we had a little snow I hit my wipers to clear off the snow and they struggled but started to move, stopped and then started again...once they started going and stopped for the last time they rested half way of the windshield.
I went out manually pushed them into place..and they worked fine up until today. I cleaned off my car completely, hit the wipers to clear some melting ice and, bam they rested in the full up position, hit them again they rested half way up the windshield again. When I engage them they work without a problem they just aren't resting at the bottom of the windshield...
Just wondering what this could be?

Bent linkage....likely.
My sister's Mazda3 apparently she leaves the wipers on auto....when she started the car one day the rain sensor was activated due to ice and the wipers were frozen down. Ended up damaging linkage or something...replaced under warranty even though it was her bad.
Good luck!

funny enough - a loose nut can also be the culprit.
Happened to my in-law's 626 last week
take off the small black cap on the bottom of the wiper and use a 12 to tork the nut

worst case scenario your windshield wiper transmission has snapped due to "struggling free" have seen it happen before. They are not very hard to replace at all

+1
This is by design. You will see that when you take the arm off to move it.

Most likely the "park" grid on the inside of the wiper motor may have fried from moving all that snow the first day. Now you are experiencing "random parks" I assume. So they stop in different spots every time they stop?
