View Full Version : 2010 - Disable the daytime running lights (DRL), only one of my high beams work

I searched all over the internet to find out how to disable the DRL's and finally found that all I had to do is remove the DRL fuse.

While this method works to disable the daylights, now I'm left with only one high beam. Is there any way to fix this without doing any heavy modding?

The DRL fuse is a huge Megablock with 5 prongs on it. Is there a certain prong on the fuse that I can snap off that it will disable the day lights, while allowing the high beams to work properly?

I dont recall a fuse having 5 prongs on it i assume you are reffering to a relay as shown here ?

why disable DRL's?

Yeah that's the one... Stupid me for calling it a fuse :bang

Anyway, here's the reverse side of it.

I'm not very technical when it comes to circuits, but would it be possible to mod the relay to bypass the DRL light while allowing the high beams to work?

why disable DRL's?

I don't necessarily intend on disabling the DRL's; I just want to eventually replace them with a white LED strip, but first I need to figure out how to get rid of the current DRL's. I don't like the Yellowish hue of the stock driving lights.

Is that the relay that I am referring to and pointing to in my original picture?
If the highbeams only work on one side you are going to need a wiring diagram otherwise no point in trying to go forward

Has any one found a schematic for that relay? I'm assuming this would work for the mazdas http://www.toronto-subaru-club.com/forums/technical-diy-write-ups-faq/143911-diy-disable-daylight-running-lights.html

try to connect the prongs by male and female connectors through the fuse insert. To test out if this is a similar mod u can disable drl from the subaru club.

I'm sorry I don't understand what that means

Um...let me try again...lol do u remeber how we did the independent fog mod? I can't explain it without pictures though. My bad, maybe we need some electrical engineer to explain it.

i have come to the conclusion, that if you snap off the right prong from the group of 3, that it will disable the drl and keep both high beams operational

The right prong? In which way are you looking at the relay?

If you look at the slot where the relay goes, cut off the prong that goes into top right slot,

Too make is shit simple, the prong closest to the camera in the pic below

would that be the prong to cut? Also I drive a 2012 shouldn't be different eh?

2010 and up don't have a fuse and only a relay.
07-09 are fused
04-06 are pulsed by ecu iirc

yeah but apparently you can cut one of the prongs, that way both highbeams work. Just pulling the relay turns your drls off but also only allows one high beam to work. Just not sure which prong it is exactly..:P

You can put a wire like that and the drl is disable.

Simple steps to make this work:

I purchased a replacement relay at a local autoparts so I could revert back if need be.
Refer to the image below and snip off pin #2 and replace the relay.
You're done, no mode DRL in the high beams but BOTH bulbs turn on when using the high beams
I have tried the relay on a 2010, 2011 an 2012 Sky and can confirm it works.

For those interrested, here are the pin assignments

Pin 3: Power into the relay for the accessory device
Pin 5: Relay switched power out to the accessory device
Pin 4: Powered hot when relay is at rest. Open when relay is activated
Pin 2: Positive hot line to activate the relay coil
Pin 1: Ground line to the relay

Thanks for the info, just been holding out on buying a spare relay as well till I knew which pin to cut.

Unfortunately, you cannot "pull the fuse" on 2010+ models

Here are the simple steps to make this work:

I purchased a replacement relay at a local autoparts so I could revert back if need be.
Remove the under-hood DRL relay
Refer to the image below and snip off pin #2 then replace the relay.
You're done, no more DRL and BOTH bulbs turn on when using the high beams
I have swapped relays in a 2010, 2011 an 2012 Sky and can confirm it works.
