There is just different steps in the way you normally do things (if you use shortcuts, all of em are different). I would say its more of adjustment then anything (not a Macbook owner).

Yes, with a mac, everything is long and convoluted. And you can't right click, so get used to pressing 20 keys at once when before you would just right click.
Seriously tho, why Phil?

You can right click with a mouse....I must also disagree that its long and convoluted, I feel the same way about a PC now just because I am not familiar with all the little tricks about it anymore, hell even on a mac that isn't set up to my preferences I feel lost sometimes.
Plus side is, if he really hates the mac, you can run parallels with Windows lol

I know, I was just exaggerating. But I went to add a printer to my mothers macbook, and it took 3 times longer than on a PC. And I know my way around Mac's.
Hahaha, yeah, I love it when people buy a mac and install vmware and then run windows and linux lol.

I rather do that then have a blue screen come up and my system crashing constantly and losing all my information. =P

The one thing to remember with a mac is...DO NOT OVER THINK IT....everything is easier on a mac compared to a pc.

Use gestures!
3 fingers swipe up / down on the trackpad will show you what apps you have open via Expose
Set up screen corner hotspots as well to more or less do the same thing. Flick the cursor to any corner, and have it show the apps you have open, minimize all, sleep the screen, etc.
If you have a folder full of images and you want to view them quickly, highlight them all and hit Spacebar, and it'll pop up in a view similar to Windows Picture Viewer (something new I learned recently)

Must have for anyone coming from Windows...
Right Zoom utility is created for people who don't like a default behaviour of green Zoom button in Mac OS X programs. This small program changes its behaviour, so a green button will always maximize your windows to all available screen space instead of inconvenient resizing. You will also be able to maximize the active window with Command + Option + E keys (can be customised).
The program changes a behaviour of most annoying examples of inconvenient zoom button behaviour (Finder, Safari, MS Office, Pages etc). You can easily extend this list with your own applications.

You'll like the switch once you get used to it. I wouldn't mind getting a macbook but I'm cheap and can't justify it lol.

for all those that have macbooks on here..what's different compared to a windows OS..
I don't personally own one, but I work with them everyday, and sell at least dozen of them daily. New ones arrived today, and we already sold 16 lol
Having said that, the OS X does need some what of a learning curve compared to Windows, and mostly due to the fact that most of us grew up with Windows...
The logical layout will be different mostly, and how applications run, multitasking, and how you terminate programs. Other stuff, you learn as they come.
I wouldn't be too worried, as it just picks up and you eventually get the hang of it. It's similar to the shift between Office 2003 and 2007, the layout. Once you get the hang of it, things should be alright after that.
Not to flame or anything, I just hope that all new Macbook owners realize that owning a Macbook does not necessarily translate into perfect computing, nor does it mean that you will not have to fix anything.
If you have specific questions, ask away and i'll see what I can do and other friendly forum members as well :)
Congrats on purchase Phil!

SOOO not true.
On a Mac:
System Preferences -> Print and Fax -> Click "+" -> It scans your TCP/IP Subnet, it scans "Bonjour" (AKA Plug and Pray in the Windows World), and USB and Parallel (Just joking, Macs don't use 1980's ports) ports for connected printers.
You select the printer you want and it will automagically find the driver for you, even if it has to go online to grab it.
Done.
On a Windows PC, you start the process off by rebooting! ;)
I'm a long time Windows user, although I'm a geek so I've played with just about every OS out there. Because of my career background, I actually prefer UNIX OSes.
I switched to Mac when they finally started using regular Intel CPUs. I won't lie to you, it made me a little sick. Stuff that I knew how to do instinctively on Windows took a thought or three, and in some cases some google searching... It kind of sucked. Especially since I had this powerful 15" Macbook Pro (When they were first released) and I didn't really know how to take advantage of it. The only thing that kept coming to mind was rebooting into Windows and loading up Battlefield or some other graphics intense game of the era.
But, I stuck with it and I'm really happy that I did. The OS is rock solid, I don't have to worry about opening attachments and because I have Microsoft Office, I can use it in the business (or in my wife's case, school) world without worrying about compatibility issues.
Bottom line, everyone will have their preferences. But since you've already made the transition, I really think you'll enjoy using the OS. All the apps are a pleasure to use and look at, and that's only the beginning. Just remember that the first month won't be easy ;)

Why the hate on Mac? Ive bee. Using both for the past 8+ years and I can honestly say I prefer the Mac.
also right click is two finger tap.
With the new macs its a lot more convenient to do things unless you're a programmer who will always hate Mac...?
Just takes getting used to is all.
Just wanted to add that programming is really easy on the Mac. If you're programming for the web, OSX IS UNIX based, so you just download the Developer add-on and you have a really nice dev environment. You even have command line compiling tools. Same GNU-like tools that Linux uses. If you want to program for iPhones and other iOS devices, then you're already ahead of the game.
If you prefer Microsoft's dev tools, then just run VMware or parallels and you can even make it seamless.

Yeah, that wasn't the case. I went looking for that and it wasn't there.

As you said earlier, Soooooo not true.
On a PC: Plug in USB, done.
But I'm going to stop you right there, I'm not here to have the same old stupid Mac vs PC debate.

Look into setting up your Expose and Spaces (in system preferences)...its one of the gems of the OS in my opinion. Also, get used to the trackpad gestures...another great feature.

calm down man, we're joking around. But realistically, that's still not right clicking, as your mouse does not have two buttons and you are most certainly not clicking the rightside button.
But seriously, we're joking around.
