Hello! I was wondering if it was normal for the highbeam bulb in our 2010 Mazda3 to be coated in an orange haze on the inside of its glass envelope? It looks similar to this photo below, however the orange haze is more extensive, covering the whole bulb. I'm thinking of replacing them because I'm sure that it has to be reducing light output, but am wondering what could be causing this and how to prevent it, or whether this is just normal? Is it due to the bulb running the DRLs and not producing enough heat for the halogen cycle or something? Thanks!

Are you sure you're not looking at your turn signal bulbs? :chuckle
J/k J/k.
Orange haze I've never seen before; black haze yes, but orange no.
Looks kinda funky too, personally I'd just replace the bulbs.

the low beam bulbs I took out when I got my HID's had this. Wasn't sure what it was.
I'll see if I can get a pic of it tonight since I have the bulbs sitting around in a box somewhere.

I was mistaken... sortof. it wasn't my low beam bulbs. it was my DRL/highbeams (which are still plugged in) that has it.
but yes, I do have the exact same orange powder type stuff on my bulbs.
-> I'll soon be replacing the bulbs with something that's a closer match to my HID's anyway, very odd in any event.
wonder if this is common amongst the 2010/2011's?

why don't you have it replaced by mazda under warranty so you don't have to spend the money on the bulbs? it looks like a defect for sure
and it will be documented at mazda and if there's a trend, they may put out a recall for this too.... they won't know something is wrong if it's not reported!

Thanks for all the replies! It's good to know that it's not just our Mazda 3 that has this on the bulbs. It is quite strange because like someone said earlier, I've only ever seen bulbs become black, not orange!

I thought the warranty didn't apply to things such as bulbs because they are considered wear and tear items? Well if I do get the chance to stop by my local dealer, I will mention it to them, but for now I think I'll just replace the bulbs myself.

Last time I was at the dealership they replaced my DRL bulb because they said it was dead (it was working fine right before I got there ?). Told me it was covered under warrenty so they just stuck a new one in there.

I've got it on my DRL as well when I was swapping it for Nokya yellows...It's been 2 months now and its starting to fade though.
