As the title indicates, is anyone else experiencing rust developing on their front wiper arms, specifically at the joint where the arm meets the motor housing? Sorry no pics at the moment.

Details:
Model-> 2008.5 GT hatch

It has always been parked outside since I've purchased the car. Would this be covered under warranty?

Flip, how does it work if we purchased the extra rust protection warranty from the dealer? Should be covered no problem, no?

Probably not covered unless it is rusted through or stops the wiper from functioning properly. Rust warranties are for perforation, not surface rust.

think only one is rusting, second owner, parking in a garage but only for a year or so, feel like the rust was just waiting to pop out right after I bought the car. anyone have a cure to at least clean up the area? CLR? think it'll do more damage than good?

No, my '06 has mint wiper arms. It's been garaged since I bought it in January. No idea where it came from.

I have rust on my wiper arms as well. It's an 09, with 21,000 km. Not too happy about this, as I now expect the body to start rusting. :sad

I guess parking indoors definitely helped. I didn't find any rust on mine.

I think the only solution would have them powder coated.. and have some kind of rust protection oil sprayed on the joint regularly.

I had rust on my driver side wiper joint on my '08 a year ago. Car had around 40K in mileage then. I brought it in to the dealer and they replaced it actually (it probably helped that I was already paying them like $500 for one of the pricier scheduled maintenance appointments and getting my warped rotors fixed)

I have some rust on the wiper arms of my 06 also. I tried taking them off to paint, I got the plastic cap off and the 12mm nut, but the wiper arm won't budge. Any ideas on how to remove it without damaging the spline and motor?

apparently you have to use some force to take it out....take some pictures when you do it, i will be doing this on Friday would appreciate the mini guide :D

"take the nut cover off, unscrew the nut, and pull up away from the bolt. its on tight, so pull with some force. I used a hammer to pull move evenly "

just an update: After numerous phone calls to both Agincourt mazda and Mazda Canada customer relations, I finally got my wiper arms replaced under MAP. What a pain in the @$$ though, with the dealer telling me they wont cover it and refusing to help me and wasting my time, to the cocky service rep that refused to escalate my issue when I told him he wasn't dealing with my issue sufficiently. The whole thing turned me off Mazda completely, and although I finally did get what I want in the end it shouldn't have been that hard.

just an FYI for anything looking to have this done too
