Wow, do you not have any class? The destruction there is crazy and you make a joke? If you aren't going to contribute, why even post?

I think what he means is that the government should be able to take care of the people. It's developed first world nation with a GDP of 5 Trillion in Japan, where as for example Haiti has a GDP of like 6.5 billion.
EDIT: I'm pretty sure the government does allocate funds and such for moments of crisis.

Perhaps I misinterpreted, but I think Hyperion is saying that he's in a hard place financially at the moment, and thus isn't in a position to help the victims by donation. I'm sure he didn't intend to make a joke at the expense of the Japanese at all or to imply that his situation is as bad as theirs...
At any rate, I too need to figure out my own finances and figure out what I can afford to pitch in. Seeing how I took a Japanese minor in undergrad, I have many Japanese friends, and have friends currently in Japan, this strikes close to home for me.

Ill donate tommorow. Its a mess across the pond there. Hopefully it gets better.
btw it was the Tsunami that caused the most damage there. The earthquake did some damange but it spawned the tsuanmi.

I certainly know what he meant, still not the right thing to say.
This topic is about fundraising so lets keep it about that. :)

It wasn't posted as a joke.
I was just simply stating that I don't have any money to give to them.

I'm 20, so what.
I work 40 hours a week, I maintain a 3.7 GPA on my way to becoming a firefighter and have done my time in the Reserves.
Your basing your opinion on someones age shows your lack of maturity.

Friend of mine posted this on Facebook - before/after satellite shots of some affected areas, aligned so that you can really get a better sense of the scope of impact:

Definitely recommend taking a look.

I've been reading alot of hate at some threads lately. Each person has a different circumstance, but if you have nothing positive to say and seem a bit provocative about the situation - then I recommend not to say anything.
Anyways, I'm planning to donate tomorrow..
Edit: Just donated now...thanks Kevin!

Hey congratulations. Have a gold star.
I understand that you don't have any money to give them but to say it in the way that you did shows how little class you have. Apparently, I'm not the only one to see this.

Peter, you need to get some of these made into stickers asap! Have all proceeds go to Red Cross.
If you do, I'll take at least 2.
Maybe have some explanatory text to go with it or something....

Put the decals onto sheet magnets, sell them for $25 each, and I'd happily pick up a pair.

For the sake of general humanity, I really hope these are not real posts on Facebook and are simply some stupid and ill-conceved hoax. If they are real, then these people are very sad indeed. This also proves yet again how stupid and evil people will behave when provided a semi-anonymous forum to express their thoughts.
Open Letter to these very specific American idiots (let us not brush all of America because of these morons):Remember Pearl Harbour you say? Japan had this coming? You dropped a farking nuclear bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Go look up those death totals and long-term environmental impacts you ignorant, historically inept, self-obsessed tools and pathetic excuses of human beings.
Hurricane Katrina you say? Before you blame other coutries for not providing aid, (which they did en masse by the way), why don't you blame your own government and citizens for its total lack of aid and concern and even moreso for the fact that 3 years later, the city is still devastated in areas and nobody in the U.S. of A. cares. God forbid that someone pay extra taxes to help another human being in your own country.
Apparently God remembers Pearl Harbour? You incomprehensible, despicable and downright evil farking idiots. May your God judge you in turn and show you greater mercy than I would.

I can be a little ignorant at times. Especially when something as stupid as that comes along.
Needless to say it's sad to see such hatred when something like this happens.
Let's face it, the... I'm gonna use the words 'hardcore God is great' people who are citing Pearl Harbour are typically from the Southern states. In general, they are less wealthy, less educated and a large majority of them join the military or have parents who have served. All these unfortunate factors mixed together cause a lot of one sided story telling and children who are taught to hate and "remember".
That's my condensed 2 cents. hahah
Edit: Just look at the spelling and grammar of some of the facebook posts...

I'm sorry, but they're pretty dumb.
And I know that we shouldnt stoop down to their level, but I dont think anything can top "Payback's a #$@!#$! Remember Pearl Harbour"
They should look up the Nanking Massacre -_- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nanking_Massacre
^^^ I actually had a reference to that in my post as well. but decided to omit.
many Chinese people old and younger generations still hold a grudge for this too.
not to mention the "diferent" accounts of the historical facts.

Hamburg and Dresden Firebombing's.
Original estimates had the death totals near 250K in each city which is more than Hiroshima and Nagasaki combined. Revisionist history has now said it was much less.
Look them up. I'm sure they're not taught much in U.S. or British schools.
