I know a lot of people love GT5.
I own it also and it's a decent enough game, but I find it lacks quite a lot in the actual 'racing aspect' and overall dynamics. The impression of speed and flow just isn't there in GT5 and I quickly get bored with it. It does do a tremendous job with accessibility to all of the different cars and nuances though.
Anyway, I also own F1 2010 and despite its original buggy introduction and some minor issues, this is a racing game I rarely can put down or stop playing, either online or in Career mode. If you've never played this game and GT5, you'll be amazed at the difference of speed impression provided and how much faster you will be forced to react in F1 2010. The dynamic weather feature is also a wonderful touch both dynamically and visually within the game. F1 2010 gets my vote as best racing game of 2010.
So, since the F1 season is soon to be upon us, here is an old video replay I took of a lap around the Silverstone track in heavy rain conditions. I gambled that the rain would stop halfway through the race, so I used low downforce settings (since Silverstone is a high speed circuit), but which make it difficult to get traction down in the wet. Also, when you are behind the spray of another car in the wet, it is almost impossible to see anything, which is why you will see my car move out of the spray.
I'm in the Redbull. That farker Hamilton is usually my nemisis on a lot of the tracks. This was a fun battle with him.

Filming off a TV.... no good... not mad just disappointed. The game is ok but I still say GT5 takes it for best racing game. Don't get me wrong you do feel the speed with F1 2010 but overall GT5 does give you more options... still a fan of "Dirt" though lol

Most people will say GT5...since they did their best to make it as real as possible..it does say real simulator game..
Btw i like playing INITIAL D...back in the old days...that was fun as u race to get money to upgrade ur car and stuff..

No option on the PS3 to save race replays in F1 2010.
Just me, but I find GT5 pretty boring. Too slow, too predictable and too repetitive.

the graphics are really good, especially the puddles on the road

Seriously? did you ever play GT5. real as possible and GT5 shouldnt be in the same sentence. first off the cars in that game sound nowhere like it should. My ZR1 with an exhaust sounded like a civic. The driving charaterisics were sooo fake it was sad. i have never witnessed snap over steer soo much before. Into a corner hit the apex roll into the throttle, get a little bit of oversteer start to correct it and snap you start spinning in the opposite direction. but the shitties part about that game was the lack of detail. they had what 1000 cars in that game, and 200 of them were legit looking, the rest looked like paper cars. and dont get me started on the pixel shadows, i had head achs.

I meant was....thats the best thing they could do...
All im saying was out of all the games GT5 was the realistic thing they could make it happen.....i dont know about any other racing games bcuz this is the only one i have...maybe forza for xbox? I dunno...
After all...its only a game they made that they tried their best to make it realistic as it can be..

SSmoked is pretty bang on. Yes, the Forza series is more close to life in simulation terms than GT5.
As for F1 2010, it's not meant to be a simulator in the strictest sense and doesn't pretend to be. Besides, how would anyone know as I doubt too many people playing video games have driven or will ever drive an F1 car. However, I have driven shifter karts and the dynamics incorporated into F1 2010 are pretty darn good I must say. Considering too that this is Codemasters first attempt at an F1 game as opposed to Sony and their partners doing the GT series for like a million years now...I'd say despite some of the issues, they have a solid foundation on which to build the F1 game from into 2011 and beyond.
Things like the ability to take neat pictures of cars is not really something I look for and care about in a racing game.

I gotta say I disagree with you guys.... with the default driving settings I admit you guys are right.... but start taking off the traction control and turning the ABS down... and the game gets interesting.. I'll admit not exactly what I was hoping with the modding side... I prefer the forza for that.. since you can actually upgrade engines.... not just add parts... not a huge fan of having to earn the paint!!! But seriously the farther you get into the game the better it gets.... I love how difficult it gets later on.... even gets to a point where its quite frustrating!!!

Debate is all good man. Part of the reason I started this thread. I don't expect everyone to agree.
One thing though, if you think GT5 is hard with driver aids turned off, try turning TC and ABS off on F1 2010 and have fun. Especially if you try setting the car up with low downforce.

I will have to take a look at F1 2010 since I have yet to play it.. I really can't judge.... but I'm an xbox junkie... adn never really liked GT before.. but GT5 was a good one.. everyone has their opinions.... I have a few buddies.. who started at the game completely into it... and have already given up.... but the online racing is what I enjoy get a bunch of buddies together on line and race for bragging rights.....

GT5 was good, but it lacked alot. Especially when you consider how many years passed between GT4 (2005), GT5 Prologue (2008) and GT5 (laaaaate 2010). It's a visually beautiful game at times, but there's times where GT5 poops the bed. GT5 is full of technical issues, so nigh on unforgivable:
- Chunky, ugly textures on the majority of cars.
- Still no proper damage model.
- The same ol' mindless zombies driving the AI cars.
- Where the hell did the brake upgrades go?
- TERRIBLE audio. The sound is the weakest part of the game, by FAR. Same lousy piano jazz soundtrack: Srlsy, enough already. Cars crashing sound like bumping two empty milk jugs together. AWFUL exhaust notes and tire noise.
On the other hand, there are some spectacular things about GT5. Better than what anybody else has done.
- Lots and LOTS of cars.
- Most real world racetracks are simply breathtaking. Driving Nurburgring is like reading a love letter to the track, meticulously crafted in almost every detail. Leguna, Monaco and le Sarthe are other ones that stand out as amazing renditions as well.
The overall package left me cold though. You could respect it, but it wasn't as fun as it could or should have been. I know this was supposed to be games of 2010, but I think Shift is probably one of the most enjoyable racing games of the last few years. I picked up a cheap copy of Shift after having played GT5 for a few weeks, and it was the polar opposite of the GT5 experience. I'm hoping for more of the same from Shift 2: Unleashed when it drops at the end of the month.

After waiting 5 years to develop GT5 i expected for it to be the most polished racing game of all time. It didnt fall short, the game fell off Everest.
I played gt5 as much as i could, but it really sucked. It was lacking SOOO MUCH. sure it had a huge # of cars but there was soo many of the same car. there was like 64 S2000's, i could think of 63 other cars that should have been included. And online was pathetic. to play with friends was horrid. we had to text each other the 42 digit lobby code WTH is that all about. Sorry GT5 was a poor exuse to 5 years of R&D.
