So last weekend I got a new computer but using same keybored as my old computer

the thing is with the new keybored now it wont let me use "?"

with old computer all I had to do was press "shift" and "?" to get it but now with new computer it wont even let me do that

same with "@" I have to press "alt" and :Ctrl" to get "@"

anyone know if there is a setting to get the old style keybored typing?

thanks

Psst, Rick, it's "keyboard". ;)

My guess is your new computer came with a Canadian Multilingual Standard keyboard (covered in accents and junk for typing in French), but you liked the old Standard US English keyboard better, right?

At any rate, your new computer is still probably set to Canadian Multilingual as the default keyboard layout. To change it:

- Mouse over to where you can see "EN" in your system tray (over near the clock)
- Right-click on it and choose "Settings"
- Click on the dropdown for "Default Input Language"
- Select "English (Canada) - US"
- Click "OK"

This should do the trick... Assuming your problem is what I think it is. :thumbsup

Edit: ^^^ Does that hold true for Win7 as well?

Check the regional settings - you might be stuck on French Canadian instead of US English.

I'm pretty sure that what I wrote holds true for pretty well all versions of windows - Microsoft hasn't changed the text input settings menus in a very, very long time... Either way though, I based that list on Win7 so it should hold true.

@Rick: If the system tray indicates "FR", you can either left-click on it (then choose English), or hit L.Alt+Shift to toggle languages.

And yeah, you can check and change all of these settings if you open "Region and Language" settings.
