Hey everyone
Just a teaser for my new summer setup. 17x9 +45 RPF1's with 255/40-17's. Go big or go home.

Wheels will be powder coated white and the final tires will be Hankook RS-3's. I used these RE050's for the test fit.
Let me know what you think. If you have any questions post them up.

I wanted to do orange but i think it might be too out there.
+ if white gets boring i can always change the color

If you're going with white then don't powdercoat it. Just plasti dip it. That way you can always go back to silver easily

Go big or go home
So technically you should go home then right. Cause 17s aren't big :p
Looks awesome man. Are you gonna roll the fenders
CelestSpeed3
03-25-2011, 09:21 AM
No I didn't roll the fenders, the Gen2's have a shorter fender lip and there's really no need to roll it.
I guess you're right, I could have went 18's but the extra cost of the wheels + tires, and the extra weight turned me off. I don't spend time looking at my car I spend time driving my car, so it made more sense to get 17's.
These setup is 8lbs lighter per corner than the stock wheels along with the extra grip. The total width of the wheel + tire combo is about 10.25".
gabbygenier

awesome. looks pretty flush, thats y i was asking.
i agree with kevin though. plasti dip so that way you can change colors when you want easily

if your putting rims on a 2010 ... you should only do 8.5 and higher width .. and 18 + bigger rim .... anything smaller on the 2010's don't look good in my opinion .... the car just looks to big .... anyways nicely done OP

Well I ran RA-1's on my Mazda6 as DD tires, so I'll let you guys figure it out.
The grip should be interesting, if I'm not happy with the handling I'm going to try stretching some 235's when the RS-3's are worn out. "Hopefully" they will last 2 summers. :rolleyes
I only hope i can get enough heat into a 255 on this car, the rear may not get up to temp though. If that's the case I'll run a reverse staggered like I did on my 6. (275's up front and 245's in the rear)
I was originally going to run 16's on this car as well but I couldn't find any street 245/45-16's.

Fair enough...I still think it'll look awesome. I'm talking Lambo orange BTW.
Yup, they are stacked in the corner of my bedroom, lol. I'm thinking I'll only need a 15-20mm spacer on the front for caliper clearance. I can't wait to get them on. Aggressive fitments FTW.

Just an update, the wheels are off the car until I roll my fenders. It only rubbed about 1/2 the fender lip with all 4 people in the car at high speed. So it doesn't rub under 90% of my driving but better safe then sorry.

Hey everyone the final verdict.
I rolled/puled my rear fenders yesterday and I have enough room for the 255's to travel all the through the suspension and not hit anything. The car can be fully dropped or slammed to the floor on coils and everything works.
So RPF1's are on the car now and everything is good to go.
Now to ANYONE rolling fenders on the 2010:
BEWARE!!!
The inner and outer sheet body panels on the new 3 are not welded together like on all the other cars on the road.
There is a bead of silicone that connects the 2 pieces of sheet metal which I thought was a seam weld. So when I started to roll the fender the silicone came apart from the heat of the heat gun and the pressure of the roller. By the time I was done the rear inner sheet metal was rolled up, and the outer sheet metal was pushed out. The car ends up with a slight flare in the rear but a smooth roll on the inside. So I had to re-silicone the entire inner fender, as well as I had to repaint the inner fender because the factory paints over the silicone so when the silicone comes off there is no paint there, it's fully E-coated though but it just looks stupid. So after I was done with the silicone and it dried tack free, I sprayed rubberized under-spray over the silicone (because the silicone was clear and it looked stupid, I couldn't find black silicone or I wouldn't have painted).
The total time for this job was about 4 hours + waiting for stuff to dry. This was really nerve racking for me because when I started rolling and stuff started falling off the car I was loosing it. I thought I wrecked my car and what did I do. So a special thanks to McGuyver_3 (we rolled his speed3 the same day) and Phil05gx for helping me out and keeping me sane, and thanks again Phil for returning the fender roller for me. You guys are the best.

How much space do you have between the rear wheel and your struts? I have 17x9 +45 and depending on how much room I need (07 hatch, fenders not rolled) I may consider milling down the hub to effectively increase the offset..

I am thinking of doing this next summer though.. and the suspension stuff come spring probably

Won't work. Gen2s have wider fenders, and speed3s have EVEN wider fenders.

i guess no one bothers to make a grippy mz3 cars? I've always been about handling/grip/suspension more so than power... even on my track car (not mazda) :)
I even modified my father's taurus with koni shocks, springs, fat swaybars, and adapters to fit rpf1s lol... made em fit with wider tires.. grips like out of hell, drives much like a newer bmw just too bad its auto haha... father won't let me track it but i sooo would... would shock and make laugh alot of people :)
I basically have to make any car i drive grippy :P All seasons are the devil.
Eh.. so who has fit the fattest tires on an mz3 if the ms3 is slightly different in the arches/etc...??
I keep SEEING fitted wheels with 245s... but everyone says no not doable?... I don't want to buy rpf1s for example and find out nope they dont fit...
Initially I was thinking 17x8.5 with 245/40/17
I may cheapen out and get fd rx7 16x8+50 and fit 225/50/16... the tires i have in mind run wider so they are more like a 235 (kumho xs, rs3, nt01, etc... yes i know an nt01 is an r comp :))

Also suspension wise i wouldnt wana run camber unless it suits the tires and car's suspension... more camber is usually better for cornering but it depends... I am not sure yet what optimal alignment settings are nor how adjustable mazda 3 stock are... my race car has every setting adjustable obviously...
I just thought of a new drinking game. Every time a_ahmed mentions "track car" in a post, we all do a shot!!
who's drunk?!? I am....
I don't see how you can run that wide of a tire without camber....

What voodoo magic did these fellas do that you guys say can't be done? rolling/pulling... thats understandable and my inital post was to get the 255s to fit would the original poster be able to assist with that work as he already has the know how and no need to screw up a clean car with 'practice' :) On my track car (yes lol), i pulled and beat the hell out of it to fit wide tires on stock metal but i didnt care about appearance on this i dont want it to turn to ass :)

08-15-2012, 09:13 PM
Same car, you found 1 example, yippee..... That setup will most likely either: 1) rub under hard cornering or 2) run suspension that is so stiff it handles like shit. Do what you want man, noone cares. Plus, you were asking to fit 255s on your car which is even wider than that setup.
The Wolf
08-15-2012, 09:16 PM
255's on a +42 will probably need a spacer to clear the strut, therefore stick out further than logic tells you. I don't think you need to do anything extreme, but you will need to add negative camber to the front and rear, plus roll and pull the fenders. Even then, that's just the body you'll be clearing... I have no idea how much space you'll have on the inside.
CelestSpeed3 started this thread and he has a Gen2 Mazdaspeed3
but I think Starscream is running 255's on his Gen1 Mazdaspeed3
No matter how many times you post a picture of the same car, or ask the same questions, or be all confuzzled, no one has an answer for you.
So either man up and just go and do it, or stop talking about it is the general feeling of most members I would say.

Look up tigermacks setups on Mazda forums.
Celeste I agree with you,
rolling the fenders on the 2nd gen hatches are a bit more difficult then some of the other cars. I rolled the fenders on my 3 last week. Exact same thing happened to me where the silicon fell off and left the sheet metal exposed. I sprayed Rust inhibitor + repainted it with my touchup pen. I think im going to do what you did and hit it with a shot of rubberized under-coating. Just to ensure the fenders dont rust.
Those of you who have Gen 2 Hatches, really be careful on who you take your car to get the fenders rolled. If I took this to just some shop to do, im sure they wouldnt have painted the fenders. I probably wouldnt have known!
