View Full Version : POLL: Mazda5 wheels?

So as much as I loooooves my 17's, I looooves the new 2010 speed3 wheels even more. Unfortunately those wheels cost way too much so I'm looking into a more affordable, sort of similar option, the new Mazda5 wheels. Not sure how they look though, would like some opinions... yay or nay? They are minivan wheels after all, I don't want them to look weird :chuckle

I'm planning on powdercoating them gunmetal-ish so they'll go nicely with the red calipers and red lugs... so here's some quick photoshops to get an idea for comparison:

Speed3 wheels

Mazda5 wheels

They're ALMOST the same, they just look like warped speed3 wheels lol

I say Mazda5 wheels, nobody else has them and it would be something new. :)

That's what I'm thinkin! No one else has them (yet).. I'm just not sure how they look at a quick glance cuz I've been staring at them for too long lol

It would be unique so I'd go for it and try! It would look even better with the gunmetal powdercoat.

Are you dead set on gunmetal? I think those in gloss black would look pretty sharp. Just a pain to clean.

I think so... I just wanna play it safe I think :P I'm afraid of the black wheels and black on my car looking too different and mismatched... (stupid designer brain!!!) lol

lol playing it safe is your best bet. Thats why I did gunmetal too. After you have this done, you realize you have to lower it right?

Nahh.... Too dark for my taste. Looks good on most black cars but I think for my theme the gunmetal will go nicer.

I would say keep your current wheels, unless you are going to upgrade to 18's. Regarding the colour - stop playing it safe, gunmetal does look nice, but it is fairly common these days. You want to be bold, go for a brighter colour. Orange, Red, Blue...something...please no more gunmetal rims.

Not for me. Less is more ;) With hints of colour... aka the red. I don't really wanna be "bold" I just want the car to look a little more sleek.

you don't have to be bold..you can add colour while still keeping some subtlety. Gunmetal will blend right into your car...boring.
Related - not a big fan of the Mazda5 wheels either.

I should really start a 'help-ash-get-rims-&-possibly-lower-her-car' charity...

hahah.. thanks for trying :P I'd do gold but even that's a bit bold for me. And my car would look too similar to mazdakitten's (she has the black gold and red theme happening already)

lower it ... plz
It's my driveway!!! It's too steep!!! I'd bottom out every time I leave :( lol

MK is planning to stock out her car, I recall her posting once.
As for lowering - just have to learn to take driveways on an angle, I had to do that when I was lowered. Little bit of hassle, but once you get the hang, so worthwhile.

My vote is with the speed 3 rims. You'll always be like "DAMMIT!! Should have gotten those speed rims...why o why ;)"

Re: 2012 Mazda5 Rims.

Sort of a love em or hate em rim..

I have heard both opinions.. I like the 12s over the past ones.

pfffftttt. you just need to go out of it backwards. its the only way i dont rub. i know its nice be able to leave driving forward and all but if backing out is what you have to do then i think its time you start perfecting that.

and besides. you wont be there for long :)

Why not save up your money for the rims you like, instead of settling for less and not being completely satisfied.

I say save your money for now and see what comes up through Kijiji or forums. Personally I'm not a fan of the Mazda5 rims.

The Mazda 5 wheels look decent on the car. As much as we would like a speed 3 wheel on the car, it would be really hard to find one or a cheap set as well.

hahaha oh wow everyone has a hate on for the Mazda5 wheels huh? hahahhah damn... I don't think they're that bad, especially when powder coated. But that's why I came here, for opinions... so thanks guys!! :)

I'd save up for nicer rims but I just want a quick, easy change for this summer. I won't have this car much longer, I'll wait until I have a new car to save and get better rims for it. I'm stickin with the OEM look for now, as long as it's within budget :P

Totally... they're the closest thing. I'm still not 100%. I'd need to see them on the car hahaha... I'll keep looking for the speed ones, you never know right? ;)

Nah not a fan of those.

ACTUALLY, now I'm thinking maybe just the old school rx-8's powdercoated close-ish to shinkas like in Philly's thread (http://www.torontomazda3.ca/forum/showthread.php?52428-Question-Regarding-quot-Shinka-quot-%28Hyper-Silver%29-Color&highlight=) :P Probably the cheapest/best looking option.

the RX8's are a nice option..just remember $600 rims, $400(minimum) powder coat...and how much are you budgeting for new 18" tires?

I've seen $600 with tires I'm not too worried.

OK so I've narrowed down my choices... I think... Man, Diego is right, I'm too indecisive. :chuckle

Ok so I have 2 leads on rx-8 rims WITH tires (oh yes Ami, IN my budget ;) lol)

AND, quite possibly a set of THESE for RIDONKULOUSLY cheap...

On a dark grey car maybe... On a black car, no thanks... Way too much shiny aluminium/chrome in the lip. Looks like something Aris would like. :)

Stick with the RX-8's.
