Head Unit ---- Will allow LCD Function to continue to work

Hey Guys

I know there's been alot of discussion about this particular unit here on the boards. One of the main disadvantages that's been discussed is that this unit loses the LCD function. I hope I'm not jumping the gun but I'm expecting a new version of the unit. I've been told by the manufacturer of the following

"It can show the data of small LCD; It has simplifield menu; faster speed of reverse; better sound effect; better hardware design and workmanship; reduce volume when reversing, so that can listen the voice of radar more clearer and more "

I'm hoping to get it by the end of the week or early next week for those interested. I will have a limited amount of these units for sale.

Hi Guys !

I received a few of the new units. I will test out the unit on an 2006 and see if the LCD function will work. I will also test out the unit on a 2007 and 2008 to see if it works.
I will let you know the results.

You should try it out on an 04 or 05 as the LCD on those models is wired differently.

I bought this unit last year and was disapointed with it!! The GPS will stop working and at night there was no way to control the brightness of the screen + the interface for the Ipod is really really bad!!!. So I sold it! its better to go with an aftermarket headunit like pionner or kenwood!! more expensive but its worth it trust me!!!

I tested the unit on a 2007 Mazda 3 and the LCD only shows the temperature and not the clock which is the same function as the previous model. I'm in between emails with the manufacture and they are stating that there should be a CAN-BUS which allows for the lcd to work entirerly and awaiting more clarification. Sorry for jumping the gun but I will keep you guys informed as soon as I get a response and hopefully find a solution if there is one ..

If anyone is interested in the previous model I can offer TM3 members the following:

Test the unit for 1 week. If you aren't satisfied with the unit you can return as long as the unit is in the same condition and only pay $50 for us to uninstall the unit. I only have a few models in stock at the moement. I hope this condition is fair or if you guys can suggest something better I'm open for ideas ..

May be the wrong connector that was sent to me .. It's being looked into to confirm some way or another ... Will update as soon as I get confirmation

I'd rather focus on getting this issue resolved before I sell any of the older models .. Better be patient and see how the new unit turns out ..

Do you know if these units work the Bose systems (2008)? I've heard there's a problem with the harness or something...

The first is it doesn’t support the BOSE sound system. If you have BOSE in your car you need to ask a technician to do some modification for you or else there will be no sound.

Recieved the correct cable now and the LCD is working !!
I tested the unit on a 2007 Mazda 3 GS/GX.
Will test it on the 2004-2005 in the next few days because I believe the wiring for this year was a little different.

Hi All,

I had this unit installed by GTA on the weekend for a one week "test drive". The install was quick and painless, it took about 20m. GTA is true to their word, if you don't like it, he'll take it back. So far, I like it!

Here is a brief summary of what my experience has been so far. Keep in mind i've only had it installed since Saturday. I do plan on taking some vido and posting a review.

I have a 2007 Mazda 3 Sport GT

Navigation

I chose to install TomTom as it is my GPS software of choice. It fit on a 2GB SD card with the US and Canada maps. It works quite well and I have not been misled yet. I'll be trying out a few others as well (Garmin, iGo).

LCD


The LCD works. The time, temperature (changes as you select outside temp button) and head unit selection (radio, navigation, etc) all display properly.

Bluetooth

The bluetooth pairing was very simple and intuitive. It downloaded my address book from my blackberry quickly, over 600 contacts in less than 2 minutes.
Calls were received easily and callers could hear me very well. Nobody detected that they were on hands free.

Misc

The screen is very bright, a good thing. A tip, if you want to turn the screen off at night you need only hold down the mute key on the steering wheel for 2-3 seconds and then again for a second to turn it back on.

The interface for music from SD is a bit old school but intuitive, put it on random and you're good to go. I was impressed with this. I put in an 8GB card and it automatically read the card, grabbed all of the MP3's and started playing the first track.

The interface itself is very responsive, it is quick and has little to no lag.

I'll be playing with the unit some more and as promised will make a video over the next few days, pictures as well.

Just an FYI, you're probably wasting your time by testing it on a 2006 model. It's the 04 and 05 models that have the LCD wired to the head unit. 06+ have the LCD wired to the harness.

Quick question regarding the SD Card, or DVD even for that matter. Will the unit be able to recognize different folders of music, and play random tracks just from that folder? So you can have different playlists or whatever?

I have this unit installed in an 05 GT sedan Allan and Eugene were both great.. and I'm very impressed with the unit!! I'll admit I haven't fully played with it still.... but so far I'm very pleased even the IGO navi is decent.... just wondering how I can get my hands on the TOM TOM software to run on the in dash. As for the LCD on the 04/05 at first I thought I'd miss it.... but really all it shows is the time.... again I was most impressed with teh quickness of the install in the car and the ipod cord in the glove box!!! Nice touch guys...!!! While the o/s can be considered somewhat primitive when using mp3 or Ipod. The video playback by DVD also works quite well!! I can honestly say this unit is bang for the buck!!

It works, but as mentioned at least 3x before in this thread, your LCD screen will not work because the wiring is not compatible.

Also, I asked a few questions almost a week ago and they still have not been answered. What's the deal with that?
