Can anyone help! I have a 2.3 mazda gt sport 2007automatic , 28 000 kms. I think im having excessive fuel comsumption problems! I drive really carefully & my car is using 14.7L/100km, specs on the car suggest about 10L/100, i have no check engine light and car runs smoothly, I barely get 300km with 50 litres of gas. No AC on or anything like that just your everyday city driving. Thanks for your help

Yikes!
City driving does consume more fuel.
But 300km/tank? You might want to get that checked out.
I drive an 06 hatch and get 450km at worst, and close to 600km at best.

Check your tire pressure, make sure you are not running at 15 psi. Also check out o2 sensor, maf sensor, spark plugs, air filter, clean throttle body, check brakes make sure you are not dragging brakes.. etc...

I had all that checked out , the dealer says if it was any sensor etc etc i would have a check engine light ,

What's your current tire pressure?
I think Shu already mentioned everything that needs to be checked. Are you sure your granny driving is actually granny driving?

Granny driving isn't always the best for good gas mileage. People have that misconception. If you feather the accelerator and are easy on the brakes you should have decent gas mileage.
It does sound like you have a problem though. I would also like to know like others how much actual % of city driving you do. That will definitely affect the numbers if you are high in those numbers.

tire pressure is good i just had my 205/50/17 installed last week . i do about 80% city driving and even at take off my dash reads up to 80L/100 . spark plugs etc all has been checked . Im leaning towards a faulty fuel pump?

if there is no loss in performance, smoke, CEL codes, then its very hard to track down. Maybe worth a diagnostic check and also compression check.
+1 for the brakes and tire pressure but it wont make THAT much difference. You would smell the hot brake pads very quickly.
I had the same problem on an old car (97 RAV4) and it sucked back 15L/100km (2.0L 4cyl) and I never found the cause (also got toyota to do fuel injector cleaning, made no diff). I had no symptoms of any problem other than disappearing gas.

That really sucks man. Hopefully you can get it checked sooner than later as gas prices are too damn expensive.

i would clean the throttle body for sure, are your rpms steady ?>
also dump in some cleaners into your gas might do nothing but why not right...
also try to take it on good 100km run down the highway and blow out some of that carb

I have 2.3 2004 when I do 1/2 highway and 1/2 city I get around 400Km per tank. When I used to do mostly highway I was at average 600km per 50g
You need to know that a car is much more efficient on the highway around 80-90km/h then in the city where you spend most of your time accelerating/braking and waiting at red lights/stops
If you do only city driving, 300km does no surprise me...

But still, 300km on a tank, it seems way too low... I do mostly city driving and I make about 400km per tank.. Probably, 95% city and 5% highway... And I'm telling you, I floor it once in a while, about 4 - 5 times a week.. Flooring it meaning hitting the red line on both 1st and 2nd...
I recently just changed my spark plugs, hoping that I get more than 450km per tank.. Maybe that's the problem.. If not, maybe MAF is not measuring things right.. That's why it's pumping more fuel in, hence, a bad fuel and air ratio.... Just some ideas I thought..

14.7L/100 = insane...
my last 2 tanks were under 9L/100...
All I can advise is - track your mileage, and hope the tracking trend reveals somethings.
I have 93 fuel ups tracked here - http://www.fuelly.com/driver/djltoronto/3
