Hello ladies and gents,

It seems that my passenger side HID has decided to burn... at least in the 5X I have checked it this evening.

I searched the forum for sometime and found all this great info on aftermarket HID's which seem to be around 60s and above... I don't need the kit, I just need the bulb...

Also, anyone actually replaced these with the original OEM HID from Mazda? anyone know anything about the price of OEM HIDs?

EDIT: I am not sure if they call it HIDs, but its the middle bulb... the one between the low-beam and signal bulb..

EDIT2: These are OEM bulbs, they have never been replaced or such. The passenger side one burned, so I thought i'd replace it.

I'd like to get it fixed soon, but I am not sure of how much is it to replace the one. I'll stick with OEM if its cheaper.

Thanks

Stock for the GX doesn't have it, it'll be halogen bulbs. But do you have an aftermarket kit?

Apologies guys. I honestly didn't know what my car had, but i keep hearing HID's. My bad.

Yes, the Halogen ones. And no aftermarket kit. One of them burned... I will just replaced with exact replica... Any ideas on prices? options?

By looking at your car thread and your updated info, I say you only need to buy a new bulb. Nextmod or Canadian Tire would do the trick. People at either place would be able to help you out.

*EDIT: It'll be a few bucks.

My 2007 doesnt have standard hids,
I believe your just talking regular highbeam bulb, your looking anywhere between 10 and 60 bucks depending on what you get.
Id also suggest changing both driver side and passanger side bulb as they do dim over time.

That middle bulb runs your highbeam lights and you daytime runners. Until you replace that bulb i would suggest keeping your lights on during the day to avoid a ticket ( i got one a few years ago due to blown DRL)

Thanks guys.

I'll call Mazda dealership see what the price is, then I will also call part source and check their prices.

The job is easy enough for me to install by myself? I dont think it's too bad. I can google that too

I think it's a little harder than switching out a ligiht bulb. Requires elementary school diploma.

To the OP: it is, in fact, your low beam if it's the middle bulb. High beam/drl are the innermost bulb, then low beams in the middle, and the outermost is turn signal.

Headlights do burn out from time to time, I'd just get hid's. They last longer, work better, and look nicer. Not much more difficult than just replacing the halogen bulb either.

Ohh that explains a lot. My low beam it is! aka middle bulb. There are SO many choices with HID kits though, and I don't think I can install them without hiccups the first time around.

Any recommendations? Or should I stick to Halogens... I really don't want this to cost most than $60 for the whole thing... Student budget doesn't give me lots of options :(

HIDs would hit you about $85

I hear ya. I really can't see anyone having problems installing them. Since you have an 07, you don't even really need a relay... So basically instead of plugging the connector into your bulb, you'd be plugging the connector into the ballast and plugging the ballast into the bulb.
Contact sp3gt (kelvin). He's got nice slim hid kits for $85

Thanks everyone.

I got both bulbs replaced today. It was within my budget. If I am looking for an upgrade, I will most definitely look into the angle eye mod. I'll save my cash for that :)

Hey, sorry to steal your thread, but I got a set of HID's not too long ago, (last week). However, my passenger side makes a weird flicker sound for sometime and then burns out. The flicker has a bit of light, but not enough to see. The ballast hums, but otherwise, I have no idea what's wrong.

Any advice?

Thanks.

Take your passenger side bulb, switch it to the driver side. Vise-versa with the driver's side. See if the same bulb still flickers. Then you'd know if it is a ballast problem or bulb problem. Assuming your driver's side works great.

Yup I did that, it seems like its the ballast's problem. I guess the only way is the switch it out then?
