So I definitely have to use 5mm spacers to get my new wheels to clear the Mazda hub (67.1mm vs 65mm). That means the front will be 17x8 +30mm, and the rear 17x9 +35mm.
One teaser pic for now:

Getting closer to a reveal..... but its almost been a comedy of errors this week.
Had the tires mounted @ Simply Tire on Saturday. It didn't help that I'd forgotten two of the valve stems at home, which Allen doesn't carry. Had to make another trip for those. Then ended up with this:
http://i52.tinypic.com/33m8ozq.jpg
205/50R17 stretched on a 9" wheel (for the rear). I could fit more width, or I could have gone with less sidewall, but these are the stock size and I got them for a steal over the winter! This also explains why the tire tread is fairly worn. The front tires are in great condition though, so I'll pick up something different for the rear soon.
However, I found that the rear wheels were leaking (didn't seal them well enough when I rebuilt them). So today I dropped in at Simply Tire again, who were awesome and took the tires off, let me reseal the wheels, and then put the tires back on.....
Except they put the wrong tires on! Ended up with 235/45R17s. Its understandable, given how busy they were over there (and just setting up in the new shop) and they squeezed me in between all the regular appointments. Anyway, going back on Saturday morning to get the right tires back on the wheels.

wow 205 on a 9 doesn't look nearly as crazy as I thought. Must be the sidewall.

Yeah its definitely because of the tall sides. I've looked at lots of 205\40 which have much more stretch in the sidewall.

Looks great! I would have gone with a 215 or 225 on the 9.
I'm currently stretching 225/40/18s on my 9.5s and it's the perfect amount of stretch IMO.

I agree, and when the rears wear out this year I may go to that width. We'll see how the 205s fit first.

Ya 215 is what I am doing. I would do 225 40 if it existed.

Looking real good. What brand of tires are you running?

how did those coilovers work out for you?

Why the staggered fitment? Did you just stumble upon these for a good price or what?

staggered has been the new thing for the past few years, thanks to the vw guys.
you can run as wide in the front, or else you'll rub like crazy when cornering.
plus, its more or less a look, to see the rear poke out, and tuck into the fenders.

Got rid of the rust, but haven't installed them yet. Maybe next weekend!

Yeah, its more about the look than anything. Plus running 205 front and rear at the moment minimizes any difference in grip. And yes, both the tires ($100) and wheels were great prices.

Ya Aitch should be fine.
Stretch is all relative though. To those of us who are used to seeing it Aitch doesn't have that much at all.

Hell I can't wait to see how it turns out! I'm still not sure if the tires will look too tall, or if there is too much offset in the front wheels, or if the refinished lips will look ok when they are on the car....... final judgement is still to come lol.

That's cool, it's always a fair warning when stretching tires. My old 18s were stretched a little too, 215/45 on 8" wheels, about the same as I have on the front now. I will definitely be mindful of the rear tires as well.
