Is a 2005 Mazda 3 hatchback, billed as a GT in the used car dealer ads, really a GT if it has no sunroof? From my limited knowledge of Mazda 3's, I understood that GT's came with a sunroof as standard equipment.
The car seems to have many of the other items I've been told are normal on a GT such as the 2 colour cloth seats, steering wheel controls, etc. But it has no sunroof.
So is it really a GT, or just a loaded GS minus sunroof?
Sunroof was not standard on the GT. Sunroof was an extra cost option.

What he said..
In fact in 05, the Moonroof was part of a GFX Package for the Sedan as well.

The 05 Mazda3 has an another option for GFX - which would include 17" Wheels and some other little goodies. GT Sedan = 2.3L for the main thing, and GS = 2.0L
EDIT: Damn you jeff! you beat me to it. lol.

Thanks. So is there a way to tell for sure if it's a GT? Obviously the retail value would be different between a GT and GS and I want to make sure I'm not overpaying.

Have someone check the VIN # for you.

Yes, GT could come without sun roof. I have a 2007.

I think that the sport (hatch) only came with a 2.3L anyways... therefore GT. Someone correct me if I'm wrong...

How would the VIN tell me it's a GT? I've run seen Carfax and CarProof on a number of M 3's, both GT and non-GT during my shopping, and don't recall the trim level designation (GS, GT, etc.) being listed.
For example, this is from the CarProof on the vehicle in question:
Vehicle VIN: JM1BK143251******
Year/Make/Model: 2005 Mazda MAZDA3
Body Style: Hatchback 4 Dr.
Assembly Location: Japan
This is from the Carfax for the same vehicle:
Vehicle Information:
2005 MAZDA MAZDA3
VIN: JM1BK143251******
HATCHBACK 4 DR
2.3L L4 DOHC 16V
FRONT WHEEL DRIVE

Give the vin number to the dealer and they will be able to tell as the decoding of the vin will have a different break down then car fax, vin decoders, car proof etc etc will have

What else did the GFX package have? I initially thought GFX meant "Graphics" or something, but my car doesn't have a spoiler... so I got all confused. I have leather, a sunroof, heated seats, 17" wheels, and the 2.3.

Basically GFX = 17's, Moonroof, different fog lights, some different body kit pieces.
It looks like you could get the GS or GT in a Sport but both have the 2.3L in the sport (aka Hatch)

Thanks laksman91. Reading thru the list of standard equipment I feel confident it is a real GT and the asking price is fair.
