This year i am taking part in the Cure to Conquer Cancer this June, and am looking for a good road bike.

Does anyone know any good used bike shops i can pick up a good road bike for a decent price?

Or where i can get proper information for building a bike? i found a great frame for cheap considering the original price, but am debating if it's worth buying since i still need to get everything else

You can always look on Pinkbike. Lots of people selling really nice used bikes on there.

I have a 2005 Norco VFR - $400 if you want it - it's still on original tires but you may want to replace the rear one before a long ride. A few mods. PM if interested.

I've changed the bar from a flat bar to a trekking bar to allow for more hand positions (not a drop bar bike). Tires are currently 28mm. Had it up to 70km/h - headshake at that speed. Anything below that is samoooth :)

// edit - I see they've changed them a bit - it's got a solid fork (not suspension) and sora front and back. Always tuned up at King St Cycle in Waterloo as it's free forever with the purchase of a bike so I've had it in there about twice / year.

Well i need to revise what i asked

I found a deal on a frame that i could not pass up, It's a CF/Aluminum Frame, bike post and fork for $300 (original price around $1500) But need to know where i can get basic components such as brakes, derailleurs shifters etc.

I've always bought all my bike stuff from Cycle Solutions, (http://www.cycle-solutions.com). They have one location by the Beaches, and another at Parliament and Gerrard.

I ride Street MTB (Or rather used to) and it was worth it for me to make the trek down there. But I haven't biked in a while (although I probably should LOL), so I'm not sure how they are now but I think they acutally updated their website now so it includes prices lol.

I race both MTB and Road and know most shops in Toronto and north of it. I would say:

A) Cycle Solutions - Give really good deals on components (seeing you already have a frame, fork,)
B) Evolution Cycles in - Richmond Hill - http://www.evocycles.ca/ - Race for them :D
C) Bike Sports - They are really into Road biking, and use to ride with them
D) La Bicicletta - Only into Road-- http://www.labicicletta.com/edatcat/us/tlsstore.cgi

So pretty much that would be your best options, I have done the road to conquer cancer and it's pretty (good easyish) since it was mid summer.. and I was in great shape :D

If you like to buy local, take the solutions above. If not try Nashbar, http://www.probikekit.com/ca/ (http://nashbar.com), or http://www.wiggle.co.uk/.

PBK is more road oriented. Shop and compare :)

If you want to ship from nashbar - dropping to a us address is $5-8 depending on the place AND when you go down be sure to stop by Orange Cat Coffee (link (http://www.orangecatcoffee.com/)) for something good to drink :D

/edit

Or you could save the $300 and put it towards this: http://www.bikesdirect.com/products/gravity/comp30_silver.htm as you're going to spend that much anyway. Shipping is free to the US again (so add $8 to the cost) and you'll have to still pay tax (I did anyway) unless you're lucky. It also cost me $25 to have a shop set it up.

Let me know if you want more info....

Thats where i am getting the Frame from. As for all the parts I found a place in Quebec who will send me the complete Shimano Shifting system, however my Old Manager from Canadian tire (don't start on CT stuff) can order me the parts for one of their better road bikes, again all Shimano parts. Unfortunatly this is what i have for my budget right now, the Handle bars is another $100 so i'm ball parking between 500-600 at this point

Since you don't want a complete bike you'll have to spend more.... but we can try to help:

http://www.nashbar.com/bikes/Product_10053_10052_510454_-1_202251_10000_202447

handlebars - not the cheapest - will do the trick nicely.

Shifters (Canadian Tire "best" is something that a typical bike store won't even carry) but if you want cheap go with something like this:

http://www.nashbar.com/bikes/Product_10053_10052_513526_-1_202630_10000_202435

Then you need the front:

http://www.nashbar.com/bikes/Product_10053_10052_514574_-1_202630_10000_202434

Then you need wheels:

http://www.nashbar.com/bikes/Product_10053_10052_514574_-1_202630_10000_202434

and then there's the seat, shifter cables, shifters/brakes, brake cables, seatpost, grip tape, stem, pedals and crank. Then you need someone to put it all together.

I think that's about it - if you want to save money you'll NEVER build a bike for less than you can buy a complete bike for.... For $600 I think you'll be hard pressed to build a bike especially since the first half is gone already to the frame.

WHen you build, you can get EXACTLY the components you want but it comes at a price.

Good luck.

//edit - you also need a front chainring and a rear casette. And to top it off a chain to make it all go. $600 for the components could be tight, $300 is near impossible.

The eventual goal is that I spend the 600-1000 needed to make it a proper bike but unfortunately time is against me and therefore i need to get by for now
