Hello All,
I'm in the search of All-Seasons and have searched through out this and other forums, 1010 tires and Tire Rack.
I'm looking for 205/50/17 for my 06 Mazda3. I have snow tires that should get me through another winter but eventually would like the All-Seasons to be my all year round tire.
I'm just an average, laid back driver.
Please let me know what you think of the tires below? If you can recommend other options that would be great as well.
I'm looking to spend no more than max $800.
1. Yokohama Avid Envigor W
2. Continental ExtremeContact DWS (Read great things of this but pricey)
3. Dunlop SP Sport Signature
4. BF Goodrich Super Sport AS
Thank you all in advance.

Sorry to potentially add to your list, but have you considered Goodyear Eagle GTs? I'm on them right now on my 07 and I'm very satisfied with them. Tire Rack has an awesome comparative tool on their website, did you take a look at that while you were there?

If you feel safety is important, you should get another set of winters. All seasons aren't even half as effective as a quality winter tire.

No I didn't but I'm on my way to take a look at the tool right now. The Goodyear Eagle GTs looks quite nice and the reviews are not that bad either. How are they on snow?

The DWS' sure do look like a great tire. Interesting tread pattern but that may be why it does pretty well on wet and snowy surfaces.
As for winter tires, I may get a set of new ones when my current ones are done but I'm still contemplating it due to my budget.

Can't say I'm a fan of one tire year round, guess it depends where you live. Just picked up a set of General Exclaim UHP's for my summer tires,205/50/17 from Canadian Tire on sale for $132 ea. They're rated all season by the manufacturer and should be fine for getting caught in the odd storm but I'm on 16" steelies and winters when the snow flies. Lots of reviews on Tire Rack. Good luck on finding Envigors, not available in the Ottawa area( and at 25lbs. pretty heavy). I guess if I had to get by on just one tire the Continental would be the best compromise.

check out this thread on rfd, might be able to score a good deal on a better tire for much less than 1010:

the GTs are just ok on snow. Light snow and even a little slush isn't a huge deal, but anything more and you'll need to drive with care, they're pretty bad on ice though. Dedicated winters are in my budget for next winter haha.

Michelin NO question!...Either the Pilot Exalto A/S or the Hydroedge, two of the best all seasons on the market.Alittle more then what you'd like to spend but worth the extra cash 100%.

Yes, the Pilot Exalto A/S is bit on the high end.
What about the Kumho Ecsta LX Platinum's? Seems like a good tire. Any input on this?

I had placed the Kumho Platinums on my front rims about a month ago now, and just put the rears on yesterday! So far, they're quiet and very comfortable! I have 225/40/18 tires, and considering their low profile, I was surprised at how comfy they are. The side walls are a little softer than what I'm used to, but that attributes to their cushiness. They have a flat sidewall that sits flush with the rim, so there is no rubber bump or bulge near the bead of the tire, which from what i understand, is intended to protect the rim from damage at low tire pressures and may help a little with accidental curbing. Control feels good, but again, sometimes a little to cushy. I've used them a little on the tail end of the past winter season and traction was okay on snow. I don't plan on using them next winter as I will switch to a dedicated winter setup. One of my reasonings for purchasing these was to have long lasting tires (600 UTQG!!!) as summers tend to wear faster. These Kumhos have a great rating on Tirerack.com!

Great. Thanks for the feedback Queue.
I'm down to either the Kumho Ecsta LX or the Yokohama Avid Envigors and will probably make my decision at the shop.
Thanks to all of you who replied to this post.

Just remember, try and purchase what fits your budget, but don't sacrifice quality for something that could be the single most important safety feature on your car! Tires can be a wise investment. The Kumho's fall under the category of bang for your buck tires, but with very good reviews and ratings. Good luck with your purchase.

I'd add another vote for the DWS ... I have them on my Saab 9-3 and they're running great so far. Relatively quiet and good traction in snow and rain. :)

lol but the DW/DWS are really a hidden gem. For example, my DW are considerably cheap, I got 4 for like 730 and performance is on par with Michelin ps2 with better UTOG

if you're going to use just one tire all year round get the ->nokian wr (http://http://www.nokiantires.com/tyre?id=11884&group=1.02&name=Nokian+WR)<-

I would stay away from the Nokian WR. Great tire, but terrible life span.

Not if you can help it. lol, just messin with you. I know what you mean, I haven't found an all-season that performs better for that price.
btw, what's UTOG?

+1.
I'm running the Envigors now on the spring/fall wheels (OEM 17"s). Relatively quiet tire and predictable/good performance.

I used to swear by Hankook tires, however I really like the stock Bridgestone tires on my new 2010 Mazda 3 Sport. I am going to stick with Bridgestone from now on. Also you will not find an all season tire that provides excellent summer grip and good grip in the winter.

You mean UTQG - Uniform Tire Quality Grading. Just google UTQG for lots of info ;)
What about the Yokohama Avid TRZ, any good?

I was thinking he meant to say UTQG, but Q and O are on opposite sides of the keyboard so I wasn't sure if it was a typo lol.

Its UTQG actually lol, it's Uniform Tire Quality Grade (UTQG) Standards, usually the bigger the number, the long life span it has
Oh...so confusing... going to go with DWS from Allen, but called another tire place and they didn't recommend them because I have winters and recommended the Envigors? :bang
I think it was because they sold out of DWS and wanted to sell me what they had.
Here's my original list: Continental DWS - $655.00 (incl rebate), Sumitomo HTRZ3 - $520.00, Falken ZE912 - $530.00, Bridgestone RE760 Sport $600.00 and the Envigor - $470.00 (incl rebate).
My budget was $600, but if the conti's will give me ~100k km wouldn't that make it better buy if the others will give ~ 60k km plus it has great reviews.

looking for tires too, just blew my rear,
had to buy a temporary tire, that matched, but I'm about due.

I'll give them a call tmr.

Perhaps I should do a new thread buty this one seemed pretty close to what I wanted to ask. I have a 2008 Mazda3 and am looking to replace my factory all season Goodyear RSA's 205-50-17. I had Kumho Ecsta ASX's on my 2004 Mazda3 and they seemed pretty decent - any comments on these 6-7 years later? I just saw a few comments online that say they are really bad in wet weather. The Kumho SPT's seem to get better reviews.
I am brand agnostic and have Hankook Icebear winters. I am looking for a half decent all season but do not require super performance. I would be good paying 600-650 for the set including mounting and disposal (This is inline with Simply Tire's pricing).
Any recommendations? Thanks in advance!

If you had to get all seasons, I'd get the Continental extreme contact DWS.
I have to echo the comments of many others here and say get winters mounted on a second set of rims. I am a performance oriented driver so I am very soon going to purchase Continental extreme contact DW's for spring 2012. Light weight, comfy sidewalls, and plenty of grip. 225/45/17

I know it's out of your budget but I currently run Michelin Pilot Exalto's love em!!! Worth the money IMO
Ran them through 2 horrid horrid winters. Funny one night driving past SUV's in the ditch and my car was snow plowing the road.
I got them from Coscto they seem to be very well priced.

Thanks for the advice. I ended up going with the Continental extreme contact DWS. I had asked for Kumho ASX but they would have had to get them in. Allen from Simplytire cut me a deal and so far they seem pretty nice - about $100 more thn the Kumho's but they seem to get favourable reviews by most.
