Hi. Maybe someone can help. I have a co-worker that has a new 2011 Mazda 3 automatic. On a few occasions when stopped at a light or such, upon releasing the brake and pressing on the accelerator, the car goes backwards. A few times she narrowly missed hitting cars behind due to the car lurching backwards. The dealer cannot find the problem. Any ideas? Placing the car in park and then drive again does not help, however shutting the car off and then starting it again does.

That ia definately NOT normal. She needs to get that car into the dealer for a diagnostic ASAP for her own safety, let alone others.

Since the car is new it should be handled without any issues.

If in the area or you can make the trip I highly recommend QEW Mazda in Oakvile

Good luck!

hmm.....
what would happen if she hit the car behind...
cause technically she didn't reverse and it would be like the guy behind her rear-ended her.

definitely go get it checked out... if she can reproduce it with mechanic or someone from the dealership in the car... they should def fix it or do something about it... give her another 2011 or something.

The dealer cannot find the problem.

Take it to a different dealer, one that shows a sense of urgency when you tell them the car shifts into reverse on its own. You are under no obligation to stick with the original dealer for warranty repairs....

If you looking for recommendations: QEW Mazda in Oakville.

So you're saying that She

Brakes->is stopped for a few minutes->then accelerates but it's in reverse? With no movement of the shift knob at all, she's not shifting into neutral at the stop (which you should never do in a regular automatic). That sounds too serious to not bring in ASAP.

Class action if they don't recall soon. Big problem for Mazda. Woah!! That's crazy.

My 2011 Mazda 3 automatic went through a transmission module at 7000 km, at 17000 they put a new crate transmission in due to low pressure and now my car was doing the same thing, but also randomly when in drive would just rev like it was in neutral. I took it into the dealership and all they said was "it did it for us but came up with no codes here are your keys, btw we did a software update". I take it home and it is now 2 days later my car is now a fancy lawn ornament because it just rev's sometimes randomly in manual drive it will reverse in first gear and that's it long weekend as well. No idea what to do next.

I dont understand how they can just give you ur keys back...WTF? They are putting you in danger of an accident. If they reproduced the problem you should demand they replace the car and if they dont call Mazda Canada or seek legal help.

They put a new crate transmission in and you're still getting the same problem?

yes, with the old one i was having problems with clunking when it shifted, then i had problems with acceleration when trying to pass it would actually slow the car down instead of speed up that is when they replaced the transmission with the new one and now i have a fancy lawn ornament due to the problems with the new one.

You're computer is definately messed up. If the new crate transmission didn't fix the problem, then the problem doesn't lie in the transmission itself. I was going to say the shift solonoid is messed up, but that would only be if they repaired the transmission rather than replaced it.

and they just reprogrammed the computer when they scanned it and couldnt find anything.

I doubt they reprogrammed it. A software update maybe, but that would only solve well known glitches. This is the second that I've heard of it, so I doubt if mazda knows about it, and even then it may not be on their to-do list.
