View Full Version : Car too low for the dealer

This has been a bad week for me. First, my headlights. Now this.
My AC isn't working right. The only air it's blowing is HOT air. I went to Markham Mazda today to get it serviced under my warranty but they said my car is too low and their hoists won't be able to do it. I told them that Jimmy from SP was able to lift my car (with a handjack to assist, of course), but they said they won't do that.
Not that I'm bashing Markham Mazda or anything, I just want to know if there are any Mazda dealers in the GTA that would be able to accommodate my height. I'm lowered on BC coilovers and I have side skirts + M'z lips.
If this is becoming a real issue, I might just go back to prokits... :(

You are not the first to experience this. Try calling around and see which dealerships have a hoist that can accommodate your ride height, or that are willing to jack the car up so the lift arms fit under the car. FYI, some dealerships will charge you extra just to jack your car up an inch or two.

I've heard the same thing once from Scarborough Mazda. Now that I've seen Jimmy do it I'm surprised that dealers don't know how, or maybe don't want to.
Just put a manual jack under the rear subframe and lift, then slide the hoist arms under the car. Works everytime, and my car (with side skirts) only has enough clearance for the OEM scissor jack.

Raise your coils all the way up before going to the dealer. If that doesnt work you can also remove your skirts and lip.

MoT can accommodate lowered cars. I've actually taken my car to Markham Mazda before and they said no once, but I spoke to the service manager and they were able to help by putting wood underneath the drive up lift that is used for alignment. With being on BC's I'm not sure how low your car is, but I've been into shop of Markham Mazda and I know for a fact they can't fit the regular arm jacks underneath (with prokits) and they definitely do not want to take responsibility for damaged parts.

Isn't the RX-8's stock height pretty low? What do they do with those? It is a Mazda dealership after all... strange.

There's low and there's REALLY low. Pro-kits I never heard any issues with. If the OP is on the lowest setting of the coils, that might be lower than the dealer can handle.

Just jack it up a bit how do you think Jimmy does it ? I think they are just lazy. Go to Mazda Toronto they seem not to care about lowered cars. Its not worth it to go back on pro-kits and do all the switching after you car goes out of warranty what are you going to do then ?

Dealers are typically lazy. It is easier for them to send you away than it is to take the time to accommodate you.
I have not been to a dealer for anything other than rust repair in years.
Try other dealerships or see Jimmy.
You reminded my my ac is broken.

we do have a pad lift! :)
at worst case, come by we would love to try and help, and if it does take some creative planning to get your car on the hoist we will cross that bridge if we get there!
let me know if you would like to set up an appt

Even with the pro-kits some places have problems, even dealers.I know from experience.Just ask them OR show them (if need be) how to use a jack. It's either that or lift each corner, by the fender, by hand lol.

Oh, for sure. I wasn't saying everywhere could handle pro-kits. Just that I've never personally had an issue with it anywhere I went with them nor had I heard of anyone else (until this post) really that had major issues.
But either way, depends on how low the car is and how far the place is willing to go to accommodate the person.

I definitely like QEW. My next service will most likely be booked there after the car gets lowered. I just wish it was a little closer to home.

I forgot to mention that one of my side skirts was practically hanging off by a thread after my visit at Markham Mazda.
And MoT said they won't do any warranty work on my car. But I'll save that rant for another time........

Why is MoT refusing to warranty your car? ...start a new thread though.

Scarboro Mazda just recently replaced all their hoists with new low profile designs. No problem getting the arms underneath anymore.
