Could be the starter TSB for the starter signal wire
Could be the starter itself. When it doesnt start do you hear any clicking? Like the solenoid activating just not starting?
Could be the ignition switch is faulty (seen it many times at work but not so common on mazdas)

it does sound like this TSB

TSB: 01-09-21
2004-2008 MAZDA3 - STARTER MOTOR WILL NOT CRANK AND ENGINE DOES NOT START (INTERMITTENTLY)

part number for the starter short cord is
BAY0-67-SH0 they are about $15.53 + hst if this is what the vehicle requires.

okay so jimmy said that it was one wire that clips into the starter, not 100% sure which one he said, but he said the clip was halfway out and loose. so he tightened it and plug it in, made sure it was tight and said i was good to go

my car wouldn't start a couple weeks ago, i ran my car low on gas then stopped at a gas station after i filled up it wouldn't start. it started eventually and i got it home. i got it towed to sp the next day and when we get there jimmy started it up no problem.. it was so weird. i haven't had a problem since though.
