View Full Version : Rattling noise over bumps

So my 05 hatch is making this really annoying metallic rattling noise by the right rear wheel whenever I go over any bumps, big or small, but it doesn't happen when I apply any pressure on the brakes. I pulled off the caliper and pads and noticed the clips on the back of the inner pads rusted off. I also tried to take off the rotor but it was rusted on pretty good. Has anyone experienced this type of noise before? I'm wondering if it's the pad that's causing this noise.

trailing arm bushings or endlinks.. there are lots and lots of post about this...

But why would braking make the noise go away?

going over bumps you are causing whatever is loose to move by working the way it is supposed to. The metal clips on the pads are only for pulling the pad back when letting off the brakes or the handbrake. The pads sit in such a way that they will not make noise. Check over the suspension and bushings

Just replaced my pads and rotors this weekend and the noise is gone.

Im having the same noise on sportlines but its def not the brakes my car has 52,000 kms on it only and it seems to be coming from both sides of the rear suspension, could it possibly have something to do with the fact that I have not cut my bump stops? What would I check first?

yours might be your trailing arm bushings

I get an interesting sound when I go over bumps as well. Jimmy had a look and said it sounds and looks like it might be a control arm / stabilizer link (if i remember correctly)
