View Full Version : Rust vs. Rust Protection vs. Rolled Fenders

I need a little advice from anyone who may have experience.
The new wheels will be going on this coming week, and I'll need to roll my fenders in order for them to fit. While cleaning my car, I noticed some rust peeking through along the inner fender lip, and some bubbling as well.
I purchased Rust Protection from Mazda when I bought the car, and I'd like to know what my best course of action is.
1) I understand that rolling the fenders would void the warrany offered with the Rust Protection. Will it only be voided where I've rolled, or will it be voided on the entire wheel well?
2) Would it be a good idea to hold off and get the rust taken care of before I roll?

It's voided where you rolled. And yes to the second.

Stopped by the dealer today and had an interesting chat with the service dept.
Turns out the salesman who sold me the car was mistaken regarding the coverage about my rust protection warranty. He explicitly told me that I was paying for paint protection, but in the fine print of the contract it reveals that I have to pay even MORE extra to get paint protection. This means the rust forming on my fender lips is not covered :(
I talked to the salesman while I was there and he all but conceded that he told me the wrong thing/mislead me (not on purpose). What are my chances that I will, in fact, be upgraded to paint protection? After all, this is what I was under the impression that I was buying, and what he believed he was selling me. The reciept just has check boxes beside the details of my coverage... It's entirely possible that I PAID for paint protection and the form was filled out incorrectly.
I left the dealership pretty disappointed. The salesman did say he would call the rust protection company and see what he could do to get me coverage... But I tend do be on the pessimistic end of the spectrum.
At the very least, I hope to be given the opportunity to upgrade my coverage.

I got my car used and didn't pay for anything like that and it's been painted 3 times not out of my pocket...

Shouldn't the wheel wells be covered regardless if u bought the warranty or not? I just had my 05 approved for my rear wheel wells

It's covered for perforation only. Right now, it's just on the inside edge of the fender lip. Maybe I'll try the other mazda dealer in town. I've heard some people had better luck there.

Your fenders are rolled... Have you had any of the repaints done after rolling or were they all before?

They were all before. I am pretty sure the rust you have is covered under warranty.
I was also told if mine comes back not where I rolled it I would be covered (From the body shop)

In theory, perforation only. But many 04's & 05's that had wheel well rust, did not have perforation yet. Just ample rust. Mazda should cover this..

I guess it's not bad enough yet. Just a couple 1 inch bubble areas. You'd think they'd rather do minor repair over major repair though.
I was a little surprised they so flatly turned me away. Not very empathetic. The service manager seemed VERY annoyed that I'd come in and bother her with this.

Call Mazda Canada or visit a different dealership that cares.
