My '05 Mazda3 with just over 110K is having the problem where the auto transmission does not register "P" when the car is in Park and will not start until the car is put into neutral. The shifter is also very "sticky" and getting harder and harder to shift between gears. I've heard this is a common problem related to the cable becoming corroded at the shift pivot. I'd like to take a crack at lubricating this on my own instead of having it done, does anyone have any instructions that I could use, or at least point me in the right direction? I'm not sure where the shifter pivot is located or what I should use to lube it.
Any help appreciated!
thanks Marc.

replace the shifter cable lever where it connects to the tranny with an updated part... the original one rusts and causes it to go out of position, which causes this problem... this issue was outlined in a TSB
parts you need:
B2YE-46-310 Lock Cable Lever
99922-1400 Nut
99971-1400 Washer
torque spec for the nut is 25ft lbs

thanks for the advice! do you happen to know a ballpark cost for the job at the dealership? also, any chance you have a link to the TSB?
thanks man...

I had to do this at the dealership when I didn't know about Jimmy. the cost was (QEW MAZDA) $90+ taxes
They don't actually replace parts, they just 'clean' the rusted part.
FAIL.
