LED strips - reverse lights

Okay, so I recently tinted my tails red with lamin-x. I love the new look :)
I do need to find a solution for what has essentially become a reverse light delete, lol. How difficult would it be to mount LED strips where the rear reflectors are and wire them to come on while in reverse? I assume I'd just splice into existing wiring?
I'm more concerned with other people/cars seeing the white light and knowing I'm reversing than I am with sheer functionality, but having the lights actually illuminate behind my car would be optimal.

have you thought about cutting a slit on the lamin-x, over where the reverse lights are. I think there is a member here who did that...and it looks pretty good!

I thought about just cutting out either a slit or a circle (like the red sedan tails), but I'm worried about messing it up, and I think this could be a cool mod :)

have you thought of putting the led strip under the actual tail light instead it might look good
