Im gonna be getting my car inspected this weekend and im pretty sure im going to need new tires. What tires (all-season) would you suggest I get for my 05 mazda 3 hatch? I dont want cheap tires, but i dont want extremely expensive tires either. something under $600
I bought last year a set of bfgoodrich g-force av-s best tire I ever bought.
I bought them on tire rack last year and shipped to my door (.Canada) $600 even

This is a good list to base your planning around:http://www.torontomazda3.ca/forum/showthread.php?51090-FS-Some-Early-Bird-Rim-and-Tire-Pricing-2011-SimplyTire . You would need to verify current pricing + availability, but will be useful to plan. The Kuhmo AST is a good value tire.

Even without pricing knowledge for the states, I'd also recommend the Kumho AST. Just picked up a set from Simply Tire. Haven't put many miles on them, but so far very happy. Much better in the road noise department than the previous tires I was on.

Have you considered getting performance summers? I got a set of Hankooks V12, they're $99 a tire and had $60 rebate.

yea i thought about it, but then i thought about the hassle of swapping out the summer tires with winter tires. also, I really dont have any place to store another set of tires.

Summer tires aren't really that much better than a good set of all seasons. Plus the all-seasons won't give you flat spots in the early spring/fall.

I also have winters and still decided to go with the Kumhos. Price was great, reviews were good, and I don't really have much reason to need a more performance oriented tire.
For example, the past 3 years I ran on Pirelli P-Zero M+S tires in the summer even with winter tires, and they were MORE than enough for me on the street (even 'spirited' driving).
However that should tell you how much I think you should have winters even with all seasons the rest of the year (but I get what its like not to have storage space).

I picked up a set of Yokohama Avid Envigor from Simply Tire last month. Put on 5000KM on them so far and am pretty happy with them. They are fairly quiet and comfortable. The main reason I bought them was high tread wear rating.

we have sold a lot of these tires, they are great value for the money and come with a 100,000 km warranty

Can you provide links to support that?

Although I don't have links to support it, I would venture that in day-to-day driving/cruising, many people might not feel much difference on high-performance summers than from a good all-season.

thanks for the help guys. my brother-in-law actually got me a deal on some nexen tires http://www.nexentireusa.com . Since his dealership was doing the inspection, i thought it would be easier to just have him to get them and put them on. only $90/tire. total cost of inspection including brakes, tires, wipers was $540. less than what i expected to pay for everything.

I should have been more specific in my question. I was curious to know as to why a summer is more prone to flat spotting versus an all-season.

Sorry to hear that. :(
Hope they aren't like the winter ones that I have.

Caused by not know how to store them. Get tire stand and make sure they are inflated at least to your cars recommended pressure. http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/browse/4/Auto/AutoTools/CreepersJacksStands/PRDOVR~0090073P/Tire%252BStand.jsp?locale=en

I think the question referred to when the summer tires are actually on the car. When temps get lower and your car sits for periods of several hours, say 8-10hrs.These tires, because of the soft compounds will form flat spots.Usually this will only occur in temps below say 10C...So your looking at putting your winters on earlier as opposed to all-seasons and waiting longer into the spring to put the summers back on...Think of overnight temps.
