I currently have the 2010 Mazda3 GT Sport and am thinking about replacing the OEM Audio unit.

What I see as a concern is the LCD that shows the radio plus the HVAC temperatures and vent position.

I don't care about the radio part of the LCD, the main question would be that if I replace the OEM with an aftermarket will this affect the HVAC display?

Has anyone with a 2010 or 2011 GT changed out their OEM Deck? If you did, what unit did you purchase, was there a special wiring harness needed and did you maintain the steering wheel controls?

These are the only 2 things that will keep me from replacing the unit. Mazda told me the HVAC runs through the radio including some of the Instrument Cluster, but I am not willing to believe that unless I hear differently from someone who has done this mod.

If you could also include where you did the install?

Thanks

K

Went to the dealer to ask as it was a concern I had. Service advisor who used to be a tech told me this. Like I said, I don't believe they would route the instrument cluster through but since the LCD for the radio also shares the HVAC, I needed to confirm this wasn't going to mess this up. I need the HVAC display at the least.

You won't loose any LCD controls including hvac

the only thing that may run through the cluster is the speed pulse wire. Which on these cars is used for the auto level control built in the deck. Also the deck not beeing there will set off a fault internally in the car but it does not affect anything. You will need to buy a harness to keep your steering wheel controls. I suggest you look for a adapter like this one
click it (http://cgi.ebay.ca/CTSMZ006-Mazda-3-Steering-Control-Adaptor-/150436340548?pt=UK_Cars_Parts_Vehicles_Terminals_C abling_ET&hash=item2306b46344)
Just if you go this way make sure it is the one for the 2010 version. Because the first one i purchased did not work at all. It was meant for the previous gen models. The difference is on the 2010 version it taps in to the high and low can lines.

or if you want to go another route which I have done before but not as reliable
