View Full Version : Cracked Rim(s)... AGAIN.

Some of you know that I had a hairline crack on the rear right rim and got it fixed at Union Rim. Well, things were going great after that, until yesterday...
BOTH of my front rims now have hairline cracks as well. This happened between last Wednesday and the weekend that just passed. I'm definitely not going to fix these ones now, that's another $400+...
I do a lot of driving and I try to avoid potholes when I see them, but this has got to be the worst luck ever.
I'm planning to pick up another set of rims asap. What should I do? I'm worried that if I pick up another set of 18's, I'll just get another crack down the road...

You can buy rim protection from me at Lexus... that way if you break a rim and or tire we will cover it... aftermarket rims to.. its only like 300 or 400 bucks... and its not a one time thing lol

surprised the Enkei's have cracked. Maybe look into a forged rim, such as Forgestar.

That's odd that they cracked. Were they powdercoated more than once?

Nope. As far as I know, they've only been powdercoated once.

I bought them used. They were fine though. There was no evidence of welds to suggest any prior cracks caused by the previous owner...

Bad heat treatment may be the cause. Odd to hear Enkei's doing something like that.
You should buy 17's
You will get a little more protection with 17's since their is more cushion to absorb the impact from pot holes

Would they do something for me? These are old rims that are discontinued a long time ago...
And I'm currently at simplytire...

"Enkei Performance Wheels are backed by a lifetime structural warranty. A limited warranty guarantees wheels will be free from defects in materials and workmanship under normal and reasonable use."
From there website.

Thats shitty luck buddy. Been wondering where you were hiding lately.
I don't think it's the rims being 18 that's the problem although having 17s with more tire would help. Maybe stronger rims will be the answer here? Best of luck man.

I'm not too sure if Enkei would do anything in terms of warranty since the wheels have been powdercoated.

running low or stock tire pressures are susceptible to cracked/broken rims

From what Allen tells me, My fd rims apparently are enkei. In my experience, the first gen fd rims (former owner painted black)are susceptible to cracking. The 2nd gens which I now have are forged and have thicker pieces it isn't as easy. "knock on wood" so far

My Enkei's have been through a few beatings and they're still solid. A few times I've hit pot holes at 120ish kph on dark sections of road and expected to see a crack or a bend. I've been lucky I guess.

Not sure? Can't hurt can it?

Hmm... Perhaps this is a reason why they were discontinued? Too light for their own good maybe... Either way its worth a shot to contact Enkei. Worst case scenario is you're in the same situation you are now.
