Hey guys, so I noticed this greasy fluid that looks like was spat all over my rim. I'm hoping this is not what it looks like when you're suspension starts to leak...
Any ideas on what this could be? Maybe just splash from the road? Looks different though. Only happening on front driver's side.

It's probably just something you've driven over, etc. It could be anything really.
In the meantime, check everything for leaks and then I would clean it off and see if it comes back.

Have you cleaned it off and see if it comes back?
Edit: ninja'd
looks like everyday grime to me, i could be wrong though. Is it oily/thick?

It comes back everytime I clean. And yes, it is oily and thickish. And it's always that same wheel. I guess if I'm really concerned it's best to get it checked.

Pop the wheel off and inspect the CV Boot. Looks like some grease coming from around the rotor though.
Have you recently had any service done?

I recently had a service done at Mazda but I don't think they did too much. I said I was bringing it in for service and they were like cool. But when I got in they asked what exactly I'd like done, so I said the usual service and tire rotation. Got the bill back and got charged only $25 for the rotation.

Do you get your car oil sprayed by chance?

probably just road tar... driven around freshly paved roads/construction areas lately? ;)

No, the best thing to do is ask a bunch of idiots on the Intardnet.

And the use of that post was???
If it was my car I'd defiantly pull the wheel and check all things that have been mentioned.
Even with the oil feel to it if it's gritty it may still be brake dust. When you pull the wheel be sure to check your brakes.

My front passenger tire of my '06 looked sorta like that. Ended up being an engine mount or some other mount at least. Just a thought.

Here's an update to maybe help narrow down any possible guesses... If I'mnot any further ahead after this I'll just go fork out the cash get it looked at lol. Sorry for the bad quality pic.

21 days later and a bunch of responses probably means you should go take it in.
I'm sure we can all speculate but I don't think there's much more to add to what it possibly could be.

I just thought it would help with a more definite answer now that I found where the leak is from.

Have you taken the wheel off yet and see if you can see where the mess is coming from?

Yep, I did. It was kinda leaking all over the place, and that combined with the fact that I'm not very car smart led to no conclusions.

Ok so where are the pictures with the wheel off? Where was it leaking from specifically when you had the wheel off?

broken or leaky brake hose/fluid. check engine oil level and brake fluid level. could be serious if it happens everytime. looks like dirty oil, whether its from the engine or brake. I suggested the brake because the hose is inside the wheel hooked up to the caliper, and if the engine oil was leaking, probably be a small puddle under your car.

I am not sure if you got it checked already, but if you didn't I am pretty sure its the CV boot that's leaking as it happened to my car as well. Better take it in as early as possible because it may only be a pin hole right now if it gets any bigger and sand/rocks start going in there you will hear squeaks while you're turning which means you need the whole thing or part of it replaced. Just go to Jimmy at street performance he replaced the boot (rubber part) in no time.

i agree with the cv boot, if not maybe its the spindle. some water may of gotten in through where a dust cap would sit and wen u brought it in for service and hey took the wheel off it leaked over and just made a little mess. or maybe during service some mystery fluid dropped and they didnt notice and it flung out when you drove it. in all honesty, it can be anything, if u got a jack then take the tire off. i personally dont like paying ppl to just "look" at something. but when your paying for it, they better do it right.
