My 2010 mazda 3 consumes a lot of oil. According to my brother who knows a lot about cars, he said that oil is used to stimulate the engine and not to be consumed by the car. On 3 occasions, there was wasn't any oil. Is anyone experiencing the same issue? Any comments or suggestions anyone? Thx

you have a 2010 so you should have warranty. Take it to dealer

I did today. They changed the oil but I did not think there was a problem until I spoke to my brother. I will call the dealer next week but in the interim, I was wondering if any one had the same problem I would like to know about it.

how much oil per 1000km? These MZR engines do burn about half a litre of oil per oil change interval and is considered normal... it happens because the recommended 5W20 oil washes up past the piston rings easily... if you switch to 5W30 (which is the European recommendation) it should stop

I've alway ran 5w30 in my car and never had any kind of issue with it burn oil.

First of all everyone here will need to know exactly how much oil your engine is loosing before anyone can give a proper answer!! Every car is different! Every car is capable of loosing some oil, or will not loose 'some' oil but how much is the question.I don't agree with theMAN on this, as I went to 96k with my 2.3 engine using 5w-20 and never lost oil except a slight amount during the break-in period and that was less then 1/2 of a litre.During break-in, oil loss is typical, afterwards, more then a slight amount is not, period. I've owned several 4 cylinder engines in my time and only one lost oil on a regular bases and that was my 73' VW Beetle flat four. So if you are out of the break-in stage and you are loosing in excess of say 1.0 litre between oil changes, I would say there is something wrong and Mazda should look into it.

you're one of the few who didn't have a problem then because I've seen too many MZRs burn 5W20... if you always ran synthetic, then it could explain why though

First of all, I would like to express my gratitude to you guys for responding to my post. Thx so much. I don't know how much oil my mazda 3 is consuming but I will look at the invoice and report back. Also, I will call the manager at the service center, talk to him about my concerns and report back to you guys. I will post on Tuesday as Monday is a holiday. I did not understand the man's post if he has a chance to re-explain that would be nice. Thanks flagrum for being so detail and thorough
