Hello all,
I am planning on installing footwell lights, and was thinking about a way to wire it so that it can either turn on with the map lights, or constantly be on with the cigarette lighter.
I've created an award winning diagram in MS Paint, and would like your input on its likely hood of success.

I already have the leds, on-off-on switch and I need to buy extra wiring.
Also, can anyone tell me where is the best spot to tap into both fuse wires, and which colors to attach to.

I'm not sure if I understand your diagram. You want to have a switch that is either taking the positive from the map lights or the positive from the cigarette lighter? So its either on when the battery is on, or its on when the doors are open? Where are you placing the switch?

For the map lights, you can always run a wire up the A pillar and tap a wire behind the map lights.

It's a on-off-on switch, so if it is up, it will be on the map lights setting, and only turn on with the map lights, when in the middle, they will never turn on, and when down, they will be on constantly whenever the cigarette lighter has power.
Switch will be placed on the panel to the left of the steering wheel since I don't have any stock buttons there because I have the GX.
Would it be possible to attach to the fuse wires for the map lights instead of wiring all the way up to the lights?
If I was to wire it all the way up to map lights, am I able to pull off the panel on the A pillar, and remove the ceiling piece so that it's completely hidden, or would I have to deal with the wire showing?

i have under seat lights. but i have them wired to the interior lights, so when you turn on the headlights the under seat lights turn on with them. spliced it into a plug located under the cigarette lighter.

I'm not sure of the fuse wires, so maybe someone else could chirp in for that. Maybe check the fuse box and see if there's anything for the map lights to tap.

You just have to pull off the A pillar, don't have to take off the ceiling. You can tuck the wire inside the headliner at the front. The glass is slightly black there so they can't see the wires. Then you can pull down the map lights and run the wire down.

When I wired mine I didn't use a fuse, I tapped into the light by the ciggy lighter and grounded on a bolt by my shifter. The only turned on with the headlights. Easy and worked no problem

I'm not sure of this light by the cig lighter you're talking about, but are you saying that I don't have to wire it to a negative wire, but can solder it to and metal of the car? (Grounded metal)

All I did was to back the bolt off a bit and stick the wire around the threads then re tighten it

Anyone know what gauge wiring the cigarette lighter is? I don't think I bought small enough clamps.
