Hello

So driving aroud a few days ago I got a cel

Checked it and it is System too lean at idle speed p2187...

I thought my gas cap was loose as i did fill up with gas in a hurry before that... then drove 270 km *no cel*

today I got the light...checked it same error
I took off my purge valve staired at it then blew it with my air compressor ... it seems clean but I cant see inside

I also checked my gas gap - that seems fine....

I then releared the idle - drove 20 km and stopped the car 8 times and sat in idle for a while trying to get the code to pop...

Its gone for now but for how long I dont know but Im searching for some ideas as to what else it could be...

the purge valve is dam expensive so i dont want to replace it for fun...

you're on the right track... it is the purge solenoid... one test alone cannot find the problem... the problem occurs intermittently due to carbon build up inside of it that causes it to stick... the valve is operated using pulse width modulation in order to achieve variable air metering and it can stick in any of the opening ranges.... don't waste your time testing it, just replace the valve! I have a pile of those special tools here for this purge solenoid... never used it again after the 2nd time

I strongly believe that the problem is partly caused by oil blow by from the engine, which occurs more when 5W20 oil is used... I've been using 0W30 oil ever since my first oil change and no problems yet (76k km)! *knocks on wood*

ok so the cel came back on same problem

im going to order a Dorman OE purge valve from rockauto.com its 50 bucks usd and I live right on the border so ill mail it to my american address

but any reviews on the Dorman brand ?? is it junk? the purge valve from mazda dealer is 130.. plus 12 percent tax

or could this problem just be a gas cap ??
