Hi, I was wondering if anyone could shed any light on this:
I was wondering if the head unit between a GX & GS is actually the same, since they outwardly look the same.
The GX lacked steering wheel controls to activate the bluetooth with.. but once added, does anyone know if the stock deck gains a bluetooth function? I see a hole in the headliner where a mic would be, so I'm a little hopeful that I only need to run a mic wire, or a dongle at the most to gain OEM BT ability

once you answer that question...can anyone suggest a bluetooth kit for a Gen1 (MS3 if it makes a dff) or am I just going to have to buy the overhead speaker that attaches to the visor?!
@xtracrispy my thoguhts are (and im no pro but) you will probably have to change the deck, I dont think that the deck will magically be able to adapt to a bluetoth button on your steering wheel, IMO your going to have to change the deck and install the mic.

After some investigation I discovered that there is an OEM Mazda bluetooth receiver module located in the glove box area.
I have no clue how to activate this, but if it's an in-line addition like the Parrot units, it might not interface with the radio much if at all (bypass radio signals, and then use an internal amp for voice)
The steering wheel controls might have a harness that goes directly to the module to turn it on/off.
But then I did the math, and after all that work it'd just work out to be the same cost as a Parrot unit anyway, and I hear the OEM bluetooth is not actually that good so....

truthfully... you have already wasted too much time looking into this for what the oem gives you...
just go aftermarket.
