ok guys / gals, this one should be easy to answer. I have a 2008 and I recently installed the 2008.5 Bose 6 CD/mp3 unit. everything works great except that I have to turn the volume up to 35+ before getting and sound. Anything past 50 will be very distorted as well.
I'm thinking it has something to do with the amp or output power since I'm still using the stock speakers, is there something I can add on to boost the volume and get rid of the distortion? thanks :)

My 08.5 is the same. To get the good amount/clean sound you need to turn it above 35. Granted I don't know if I've ever had it at 50.

Yea, mine too, it's not supposed to be like that. There's a service bulletin about it (link to the site with service bulletins is somewhere on tm3). Some dealers know about it, some don't. I think they'll replace the head unit free under warranty..

hmmm ok so forget about Bose ... can I install a stock non-bose 2009 6CD / MP3 player as just a plug and play? no amp?

did your car come with bose? if not, then it will never work right without all the bose specific junk
the bose uses an external amp, a subwoofer under the passenger seat, and special speakers (uses a screwed up impedance rating)

Hmmm I see, that's what gathered too. So then would this work as just plug and play then, I contacted the seller, it is a non-Bose unit: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/310345733749?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

If it is non Bose then it is plug and play. As pointed out in previous post from theMan ln order to use the Bose head unit you would need all of the Bose components.
